Mission Statement

American Financial Institute, founded in 2002, grew out of the need to address the growing problem of financial illiteracy in our society. Studies show that illiteracy regarding financial matters represents one of the greatest plagues to our economy. The rapid growth of debt-to-wealth ratios and bankruptcy filings are only symptoms of the crisis. American Financial Institute, comprised primarily of volunteers, offer financial workshops to the public throughout the United States. American Financial Institute also offers licensure/certification courses in finance-related fields to increase the intellectual acumen of financial professionals. Additionally, a great deal of AFI's efforts is dedicated to financial literacy research. AFI's goal is to bridge the financial intellectual gap in our society such that all Americans have an opportunity to enjoy the full benefit of their labor.

Dr. K.G. Lawrence, Executive Director, is American Financial Institute's founder. Dr. Lawrence envisions a society of well-informed individuals regarding matters having financial consequences. A graduate of Florida State University and Florida International University's, graduate schools of business and education, he holds a finance faculty position at Florida A&M University. Dr. Lawrence is a licensed real estate salesperson, real estate appraisal trainee, mortgage broker, real estate instructor, appraisal instructor, insurance instructor and is in the midst of completing his experience requirement for the general contractor license and certified financial planner certificate.
