After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Larry joined the Food Bank and was appointed the organization's Executive Director a year later. He continues to serve in this capacity and has led the organization's development from distributing 36,000 pounds of food in its first year to over 16 million pounds of food last year, serving over 149,000 low-income people in need every month Through his dynamic leadership and sound fiscal management, the Food Bank currently employs over 60 people and has an annual operating budget of $9 million. Larry has served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest), the national food bank network. He sits on several committees, including the distribution committee that allocates Federal funds to hunger agencies in Contra Costa and Solano counties. In addition, Larry has served on State advisory committees on hunger and task forces for Feeding America and United Way.

Program Description:

The Food Bank operates several direct service programs, including its Food for Children program, which serves over 700 children ages 4 - 6; the senior Brown Bag program, offering free groceries to over 3,696 senior households twice each month; the Extra Helpings program, which assists 216 individuals with special needs; Farm 2 Kids program, which provides fresh produce each week to 3,438 schoolchildren in 33 after school programs in low-income communities; and its Food Assistance Program, serving over 15,395 low-income individuals each month.
