Program Description:

The Tuolumne River Adventure Club (TRAC) is one of the Tuolumne River Trust's educational programs. The program seeks to lower barrier to underserved youth in Stanislaus County, California by providing leadership development, river safety training, and canoe skills led by culturally relevant adult mentors who serve as role models. By providing healthy, engaging, and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities centered in and around the Tuolumne River, the program increases environmental awareness and stewardship of the Tuolumne River.

Program Long-Term Success:

The most tangible outcomes of the TRAC program will be the outdoor recreation skills and confidence gained by participating teens with an anticipated trickle-down effect to family and peers. We seek an increase in outdoor recreation on and around the Tuolumne River by residents, teenagers with a strengthened sense of confidence and self-worth, and a community that is connected to and invested in the natural resources that surround it. Specifically, we anticipate that our project will have the following outcomes:

Participants will have increased knowledge and motivation for environmental stewardship.

Participants will improve and develop new leadership skills.

Barriers to participating in outdoor activities will be reduced by establishing key relationships with culturally relevant leaders and increasing awareness of opportunities for youth and their families close to home.

Participating youth will develop proficiency and confidence at canoeing, river safety, and outdoor recreation in general.

Participants will discover new avenues for outdoor recreation along the Tuolumne River.

Participants will have a greater awareness of the Tuolumne River and related environmental topics.
