Program Description:

VLSP provides a holistic combination of pro bono legal and social service assistance (from brief advice and referral, to full representation, to limited scope representation) through the following poverty law projects: Domestic Violence Project (helping women and children to establish stable, violence-free lives). Family Law Project (helping families stabilize their lives by obtaining child custody, guardianship, visitation, separations, dissolutions). Legal Advice and Referral Clinics (two free monthly clinics in downtown San Francisco and the Bayview-Hunter's Point neighborhood assisting any member of the public who drops in with all areas of civil law). Legal and Identification Clinics for the Homeless (clinics at San Francisco's Project Homeless Connect where homeless residents get help with resolving legal issues and obtaining a California ID). Homeless Advocacy Project (helping clients who are homeless or seriously at risk of homelessness to obtain and remain in housing through access to supportive housing, healthcare, and counseling; removing barriers to employment; and public benefits advocacy). Eviction Prevention Project (preventing unnecessary and illegal evictions, with an emphasis on serving families with children). Housing Negotiation Project (helping tenants avoid immediate eviction by pairing them with pro bono attorneys who represent them and advocate on their behalf during a court-ordered settlement conference with their landlords). Consumer Project (removing barriers to employment and housing by helping clients clear up credit problems). Community Organization Representation Project (providing pro bono business law services to strengthen the non-profit sector).
