Mission Statement
Providing for Yosemite's future is our passion. Yosemite Conservancy is the only philanthropic organization dedicated exclusively to the protection and preservation of Yosemite National Park. We inspire people to support projects and programs that preserve and protect Yosemite National Park's resources and enrich the visitor experience. With the support of our donors, we have completed more than 330 projects providing more than $60 million in support to Yosemite. We are committed to creating unique opportunities for people to connect with the park, through restoring hiking trails and iconic lookouts, providing outdoor education and volunteer programs.

Profile:
In January 2009, Mike Tollefson assumed the role President of the Yosemite
Fund after a 36 year career with the National Park Service. He led the
organization through its recent merger with Yosemite Association to form
the Yosemite Conservancy in January 2010.
Mike’s National Park Service tenure included Superintendent of Yosemite
National Park from 2003-2009, Great Smoky Mountains National Park,
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska. From 1987
to 1994, Mike was Associate Regional Director for Operations in the National Park Service's
former Pacific Northwest Region. Stationed in Seattle, he provided support for all aspects of
operations to the 20 national park units in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. During his Park
Service career, he worked in 10 national parks from Alaska to the Virgin Islands. He has also held
policy leadership positions and worked on a variety of department issues and initiatives in
Washington D.C.
A native of Seattle, Mike graduated from the University of Washington in 1970 with a B.A. in
marketing and finance. He later returned to graduate school to study park management. Mike
served in the U.S. Army Reserve for eight years, attaining the rank of captain.
