<p>Be the Star You Are! is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that collects and distributes books and other positive media to women, families, and youth at risk as a way to raise their life skills and self esteem. Book topics range from education and advisement to inspiration and guidance and cover<strong> </strong>every aspect of life, from abuse through money management.</p>
<p>Be the Star You Are! is an <em>all</em> volunteer organization that operates through contributions, in-kind donations, and proceeds from fund-raising events. Be the Star You Are! does not receive state or federal funding and is solely dependent on contributions from the community and corporations.</p>
<p>Be the Star You Are! has no religious or political agendas or affiliations.</p>

<p >Since 1999, Be the Star
You Are!® has served approximately 209,800 individuals and families within 73
organizations and has logged more than 229,990 volunteer hours, while
distributing over $1.7 million in resources. Be the Star You Are!® was
nominated for the California Governor’s and First Lady’s Service Awards and
touted with five star ratings as a top rated non profit by GuideStar and Great
Non Profits in the Women’s Empowerment Campaign. As part of our empowerment
program, the series, SHINE, is available on YouTube. Be the Star You Are!®
radio program broadcasts to 5.5 million listeners in 82 countries. More than
1800 authors, experts, and professionals have been interviewed on our
show. Over 1800 books have been read and reviewed by our Star Teen Book
Review Team and published by publishers, <em>The Reading Tub</em>, and on our web
site at www.bethestaryouare.org.</p>

<p >THREE NATIONAL OUTREACH
SUCCESS STORIES</p>
<p >1.Operation Ground Hero-With
the attacks on America on September 11, 2001, Be the Star You Are! ® was one of
the first charities to offer support and resources to the victims. Several
hundred local volunteers as well as volunteers around the country helped us
ship over 50 pallets of uplifting materials valued at over $57,000</p>
<p >2.Operation Hurricane
Relief-After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, Be the Star You Are!®
partnered with volunteers in the South to deliver $27,000 worth of books and
resources to libraries, schools, groups, and shelters.</p>
3.Operation Fire
Relief-Four years after the devastating Cedar Fires, Southern California
experienced over a dozen wildfires raging for two months from October to
December of 2007. With thousands of families left homeless, Be the Star You
Are!® worked with relief agencies to deliver holiday gifts to children. $10,000
worth of books and media were donated.

Be the Star You Are! was founded in 1999 by Cynthia Brian is known as "The Renaissance Woman with Soul" and called "Oprah of the Airwaves". Her achievements include author, producer, wife, mother, model, teacher, interior designer, gardener, artist, casting director, and television and radio personality and corporate spokesperson. Her belief is that we were not created equal. We are unique and all individuals can live their dreams if they have the opportunity and encouragement to develop a plan, obtain the skills necessary to create their own destiny, and most of all, believe in themselves and all their possibilities. It was this desire to help people enhance their quality of living and experience life's joy that motivated Cynthia to found Be the Star You Are! as a non-profit organization devoted to empowering youth at risk through literacy and positive media. Cynthia is the New York Times best selling author of Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul, Be the Star You Are!, Miracle Moments, and The Business of Show Business. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of her books benefit Be the Star You Are! charity.

<p ><strong>Be the Star You Are!® </strong>employs a
volunteer Star Teen Book Review Team to read and review books aimed at
youth. These reviews are published at The Reading Tub helping parents,
teachers, and librarians make informed decisions on what books will entertain
and educate children and teens. The annual National Essay Contest offers
aspiring writers an opportunity to get published and to express their ideas to
a global community through a radio interview. Paint-a-pot and plant-a-seed (a
metaphor for planting the seeds of literacy) is a signature outreach project
for kids utilized at community events by volunteers. The StarSearcher’s Express
newsletter is sent monthly to over 9,000 subscribers with news, inspirational
quotes, tips, and spotlight on the volunteers.</p>
<p ><strong>Be the Star You Are!</strong> ® also
mobilizes for disaster relief shipping thousands of books, media, videos, and
other resources under its “Operation” series of programs. To date, families who
were victims of 9/11 were assisted through Operation Ground Hero, Hurricane
Katrina and Rita victims received aid through Operation Hurricane Relief, and
children who lost their homes in the Southern California fires received holiday
books with Operation Fire Relief.</p>

Program Long-Term Success:
Have now exceeded donations of more than $1.5 million dollars in books and other resources to our beneficiaries of our literacy program. Our volunteer hours tripled this year. With our OPERATION FIRE RELIEF we distributed over $10,000 in books. Radio show broadcasts to 5.5. million people in 80 countries
