Mission Statement
In metropolitan Los Angeles many residents, but especially children, have lost their connections to the natural world. In turn, the natural areas have lost connections to each other. Our mission is to help re-establish those connections by funding projects to encorage use of old and new parks, study nature, and provide training to further explore the natural world. We also work on projects to protect and restore natural corridors. and preserve the remaining open spaces.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
We underwrite a Sierra Club publication that reaches the public throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties with over 3000 opportunities to get out in nature and exercise while learning about the ecosystems in Southern California. Just last year a special inner city youth program provided transportation funding for over 600 children to visit, hike, camp, and discover nature's wonders for themselves as they explored it all, from tide pool, to hilltop view.

Leadership
Ms Judith Anderson
Term:
Since
Jan
2004
Profile:
Recipient of the John Muir Award, highest award of the Sierra Club; appointed to the California Off Highway Motor Vehicle Commission; retired mathematics teacher; invited by President Clinton to the signing of the California Desert Protection Act after 15 years of labor on the legislation.
Leadership Statement:
Our role in facilitating access to the natural world is even more relevant today than when we were organized. Join with us to sponsor programs that reach: a public with health issues compounded by a lack of exercise;a school age population with no "luxuries" like busses to local parks; and families dealing with economic hardships and looking for free and inexpensive things they can do together. Join us in encouraging them all to rekindle a curiosity in the natural world that isn't satisfied by an electronic device.
