A NOISE WITHIN

Classics Live! is a year-round education program that includes subsidized performance tickets and busing; in-class workshops; post-show discussions; standards-based study guides; Tickets for Teachers; Educator Professional Development Workshops; and The Classics Live! Learning Resource Center.A Noise Within offers 16 to 18 weekday student matinee productions for school groups. Teachers may also bring students to a regular performance, meaning over 30% of audiences are comprised of students. Students receive fully- or partially-subsidized tickets and many schools also receive free transportation to and from performances. Regardless of economic standing, the majority of student participants have never before attended a live theatre production. A Noise Within’s year-round education program has five components:1) Classics Live! offers a contemporary context for classical literature through student attendance at performances; teaching artist pre-performance workshops in the classroom; fully subsidized tickets with transportation to and from the theatre; post-performance discussions with resident artists; and standards-based study guides.2) Study Guides: A Noise Within’s State of California standards-compliant study guides aid teachers in the preparation of accessible and engaging lesson plans that bring the classics to life. Study guides highlight themes, context, and character analysis, while integrating music, visual arts, and history components.3) Tickets for Teachers offers preview performances at no charge so that teachers may better prepare their students for the experience of live theatre.4) Educator Professional Development Workshops equip teachers with the knowledge, skills, and tools to engage their students in the study of Shakespeare’s plays. Previously, A Noise Within has offered single play intensives on Antony and Cleopatra, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Cymbeline.5) The Classics Live! Learning Resource Center is a one-of-a-kind library that will make audio/visual resources, study guides, research facilities, and reference materials available for educators and students both onsite and online.The Classics Live! Learning Resource Center expansion project is a key component of A Noise Within’s education programs because it offers current education partners more cutting-edge resources to engage the youth of today while bringing in new partners, and extending relationships and partnerships over many years beyond initial contact. Through employing the latest digital and Internet-based technology extending the reach of A Noise Within and its education programs beyond Southern California to the entire state and across the nation.
