MISSION AND PROGRAMS
Mission
The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, through its network of beneficiary agencies and services, provides humanitarian needs of people of all ages. They help those in need of food, housing, transportation, counseling, socialization, and more, all in a Jewish setting. The Federation is the forefront of creating and supporting programs for youth that help strengthen Jewish identity and pride.
Programs
Jewish Volunteer Center: the Jewish Volunteer Center is the place to go to find out about all types of volunteer opportunities.
Information and Referral Service: This service evaluates a person?s situation and refers him or her to the agencies that can best help. It is a free community service offering guidance and information to meet personal needs.
Women?s Division: The Women's Division of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation works to enhance Jewish life through fund-raising, educational and leadership development programs. It supports and interprets the Federation's mission as it motivates women to devote their time and financial resources to the local, national and international Jewish communities.
Commerce and Professions: Commerce & Professions ("C&P") acts as a business network for thousands of members of the Jewish community currently working in Miami-Dade County. C&P is comprised of 6 primary divisions based on professional affiliation: Attorneys; Accountants; Medical & Health Care; Real Estate & Allied Trades; Finance, Securities, & Insurance; and Business & Industry.
Young Leadership Council: Regarded as the future of Federation leadership, the Young Leadership Council is the Federation?s place to be for young men and women, ages 22-40. The dynamic members of this group motivate each other to develop the leadership skills required for a strong Jewish future. From program planning to public speaking to doing mitzvot to fund-raising, there?s room in YLC for every talent and every interest. Activities include: Missions to Israel, mitzvah programs, social and educational events, Jewish educational and speakers programs, and fund-raising activities.
Community Division: Residents of high-rise buildings are active in this division. Special campaign events such as parlor meetings, brunches and dinners are held annually at many of the high-rises. These fun, entertaining and informative social events provide opportunities for neighbors to get together with their fellow neighbors and play an important role in the success of the Federation/United Jewish Appeal Campaign.
International Division: Approximately 1,500 families are involved in this division, which began in 1966 as a result of the overwhelming migration of Cuban Jews to Miami. Families and individuals from Cuba, Latin America, South America and many other nations around the world are involved in the International Division, which continues to play an increasingly vital role in attendance at Federation events and contributions to the Federation/United Jewish Appeal Campaign.
Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC): The JCRC brings together Jewish community leaders and representatives of Jewish organizations to discuss and take action on a broad range of local, national and international issues, including: Israel and the Middle East; Jews in jeopardy in nations all over the world; anti-Semitism; civil rights and civil liberties; inter-group relations and cults and missionary activities. Interesting and informative JCRC programs and seminars help keep our community up to date on important issues.
Community Chaplaincy Service: In cooperation with the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami, Community Chaplaincy Service works to provide pastoral care, counseling and visits to unaffiliated Jews in general hospitals, mental hospitals, correctional institutions, homes for the mentally challenged, nursing homes, hospices and other locations.
Foundation of Jewish Philanthropies: The only permanent endowment for Miami?s Jewish community, the Foundation?s resources help to guarantee the future of programs serving local humanitarian needs.
Professional Advisory Committee of the Foundation of Jewish Philanthropies: The Federation?s Foundation of Jewish Philanthropies includes an active and dynamic Professional Advisory Committee. More than 200 men and women with expertise in legal, accounting, investment, financial and estate planning fields make up the PAC, and act as the Foundation?s advocates and spokespersons in our community.
North Dade Office: In order to serve one of the most dynamic and densely populated Jewish communities in the entire nation, the Federation opened its North Dade branch in 1996 at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, 18900 NE 25th Avenue in North Miami Beach. Now housed at the Center in the ultra-modern, new Lipton Foundation Greater Miami Jewish Federation Community Services Building, the North Dade branch is comprised of many dedicated and committed Jewish community leaders who work with the area?s synagogues and other organizations to ensure a wide variety of quality Jewish activities and programming for people of all ages and interests.
Community Planning and Allocations: Making sure that funds contributed to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign are spent as effectively as possible locally, in Israel and around the world, is the primary focus of the Federation's Community Planning and Allocations Department. This department also advises representatives of agencies supported by the campaign on planning and development of new Jewish community programs, as well as management of existing programs.
Israel Programs: The Federation's Israel Programs Department is the place to turn to find out the latest information on savings-incentive and scholarship programs designed to make an Israel experience more affordable to more individuals and families.
South Dade Leadership and Development: The primary purpose of the South Dade Leadership Development is to create, coordinate, and manage a variety of programs and activities in South Miami-Dade, Florida which are designed to serve the Jewish community in the areas of campaign, community education, leadership development, community services, human resources outreach and synagogue, agency, federations relations.
Young Leadership Development: The Young Leadership Council is the Federation's place to be for young men and women, ages 22-40 YLC motivates its members to become more actively involved in the Federation by: Recruiting young Jewish people with diverse backgrounds and interests who aspire to positions of leadership in the organized Jewish community.

Balance Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2008
Note: The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
