Chief Executive Profile
Harry Johns became the president and chief executive officer of the Alzheimer's Association at the beginning of September 2005. Since his arrival, he has launched new initiatives to advance the cause, including the first nationwide campaign to increase understanding and awareness about Alzheimer's, a project to accelerate treatment progress by promoting participation in clinical studies and a variety of program offerings designed to support both individuals with the disease and their caregivers. He has substantially increased both revenue and program expenditures to support the mission of the organization.
Prior to joining the Alzheimer's Association, Johns spent more than 22 years in various positions with the American Cancer Society (ACS). In his final role at ACS, he served as the executive vice president for strategic initiatives and as a member of the four person executive team. He was responsible for nationwide strategy directions, including information delivery, community programs, advocacy, marketing and fundraising.
Johns earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., and a master's degree in business administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He serves on the boards of Research America and the National Health Council.

Mission
To eliminate Alzheimer''s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Programs
The Association provides funding for studies exploring disease characteristics, causes and probable characteristics.
GOALS AND RESULTS
Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007
- To find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
- Marked World Alzheimer's Day on September 21 with nationwide outreach to raise awareness about the 26 million people living with Alzheimer?s and the growing epidemic that will cripple the healthcare system worldwide.
- Published Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report to provide the first comprehensive set of Alzheimer statistics on prevalence. Report findings indicated that Alzheimer's is currently the seventh-leading cause of death and that someone in America develops Alzheimer's every 71 seconds.

Note: The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered.
