Chief Executive

Mr. Robert Hess

Chief Executive Profile

Robert Hess is a prostate cancer survivor. He was diagnosed in 2002 and underwent surgery in 2003. He is a founding Principal of TSG Management Consultants, a Santa Monica, California management consulting firm that specializes in organizational performance improvement. Robert's post-military business career includes positions as Vice President of Business Development in the Washington, DC office of Aerospatiale, Inc., and Director of Strategic Planning and Partner Relations at the Center for Digital Innovation at the University of California Los Angeles. He is a Senior Fellow at The Center for the Digital Future, Annenberg School of Communications, and University of Southern California. During his military career, Robert commanded ground and air units in the Republic of Vietnam and West Germany, served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and as a political/military advisor in the US Department of State. Robert holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA, a Masters Degree in Area Studies from the School of International Service, The American University, Washington, DC, and a BA in History from the Virginia Military Institute. He is a graduate of the Board of Directors Institute, Price Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of California Los Angeles, the Landaegger Institute for International Management at Georgetown University, and numerous military schools, including the US Army Command and General Staff College. He has served as an outside director of a privately held aviation services company. Robert is a certified Facilitator for the award winning FastTrac, entrepreneurial training programs offered through the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Robert speaks French and German, has published articles on international defense issues and performance improvement in the community banking industry. Prostate Cancer Survivor (Prevention) Project. Robert formed the Prostate Cancer Survivor Project, as a result of his personal experience with prostate cancer. His accidental (and fortunate) diagnosis allowed him to be treated before his cancer had metastized. In discussions with colleagues and friends, he realized that almost none of them were aware of prostate cancer testing and, those that were, had little if any understanding what the test results meant. Recent American Cancer Society statistics show that only 52% of at risk men have an annual screening test, and the number is declining. The two-fold mission of the PCPP is to get educate men and provide the knowledge that will allow them to catch their prostate cancer when it still is treatable.

MISSION AND PROGRAMS

Mission

Getting men and their families to understand prostate cancer risks and helping them implement a practical program that leads to early detection when prostate cancer is still treatable.

Programs

The creation of a nationwide series of Black Tire Affair (trademark) bicyling events that will carry the "early detection" message and at the same time provide an excercise program for lifestyle change that will support prostate cancer prevention and help prevent recurrence for prostate cancer survivors. These events include competitive events, fun rides, and recreation events for men and their families. Prostate cancer affects the entire family, and prevention and cure is a family "team" event.

GOALS AND RESULTS

Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007

  1. Hosted a corporate challenge prostate cancer awareness event at the ADT Event Center, Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
  2. Created the structure and format for our nationwide bicycling programs.
  3. Featured in a news article in the Beach Reporter, the local newspaper for the South Bay region.

Objectives for Fiscal Year Beginning January 1, 2008

  1. Establish local PCPP chapters in three states outside of California.
  2. Complete two awareness/fundraising events in Los Angeles.
  3. Host a two-day awareness event on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

Self Assessment

We have a series of polls on our website that request feedback from program participants. Our 2008 plan calls for a more extensive survey program that will allow us to evaluate our programs in general and events staged by our local partners.
