Mission and Programs

Mission

The Water Project, Inc is bringing relief to developing communities in Africa and India who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water by funding freshwater wells and other water projects.

Working with local NGOs and implementers, we provide the means necessary to build sustainable water projects in communities that have a demonstrated commitment to their own long-term development.

Programs

Our projects benefit about 1,000 people each, on average, by providing clean water in excess of U.N. minimum standards for access to clean water. We prefer to work on projects at schools, medical clinics and churches that each provide open access to large communities of people. Each project is initiated and managed by a local committee comprised of community leaders.

Who We Are

The Water Project, Inc. is bringing relief to communities around the world who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water.

Goals and Results

Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007

  1. Provided funds to construct water projects in seven communities in Kenya, bringing water to over 8,000 people.

Objectives for Fiscal Year Beginning January 1, 2008

  1. Expand the reach of our water projects into Cameroon, India, and Zambia.
  2. Increase the number of projects substantially in Kenya.
  3. Partner with large deep well drilling organizations and initiate five bore-hole projects at Kenyan schools, each serving over 2,000 people.

Self Assessment

Each project is carefully assessed and monitored by local implementing NGOs. We document all water project construction with photographic evidence and GPS coordinates. We also request detailed community reports before and after projects are implemented.
