Mission and Programs

Mission

Our mission and purpose is to help rescue homeless, abused, neglected, sick cocker spaniels by providing refuge, foster care, medical care, rehabilitation and socialization, and to provide financial assistance to other cocker spaniel rescxue groups with special needs dogs in order to provide financial aid for their medical/veterinary care. The mission of our division Cocker Angels Rescue Aid Fund is to assist Cocker Spaniel rescue organizations with medical care and other extraordinary expenses required by their rescue dogs through financial grants to the cocker spaniel rescue. Founded in 2001 and granted non-profit status in 2004, Betsy''s Cocker Place, Inc. and our division, Cocker Angels Rescue Aid Fund, are a network of volunteers throughout the United States. Companion cocker spaniels, other cocker spaniel rescue organizations and other dogs receive financial assistance for medical care and surgery, spay/neuter, heartworm and other tests, and appropriate vaccines. Our fostering of dogs allows the dog to re-acclimate to a home environment. Each dog is temperament tested and placed with adoptive families matched to the dog''s temperament.

Programs

In 2004, the IRS approved Betsy's Cocker Place, Inc. for tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status. Betsy's Cocker Place, Inc. also elected a Board of Directors, published newsletters, and established a Web site to lay the base for further disseminatioan of information on caring for and rescuing cocker spaniels. On our Website, and the website of our division Cocker Angels Rescue Aid Fund, (CARA) we raise funds by selling various cocker spaniels items, including snoods, belly-bands, panties, coats, dresses, etc., all sewn by volunteers in the USA, and all profits being used for the benefit of cocker spaniels in need. We also hold regular fundraisers to raise monies for specific cocker spaniels and other cocker spaniel rescue groups in need of grants for financial assistance with special needs cocker spaniels. Our division Cocker Angels Rescue Aide Fund (CARA) was created to fill a large void in cocker spaniel rescue. Each year many of our fur-coated friends end up left behind at shelters because cocker spaniel rescue groups cannot afford the medical bills facing them if they take them in. So otherwise loving, needy dogs face a grim fate. While a wonderful network of rescues exists to help take these dogs in, there is little financial help available to the rescues themselves. And so Cocker Spaniels Rescue Aid Fund was born. Cocker Spaniel Rescue Aid Fund's mission is to provide grants to help cocker spaniel rescue groups pay their veterinary bills for special needs dogs. Our Website and newsletters provide the reader with educational information and tips on the proper care for the cocker spaniel. Our organization's goal is to help increase public awareness of the plight of the cocker spaniel breed, appropriate care of ears and skin, and appropriate nutrition for optimum health, as well as to provide information and guidance to owners of cocker spaniels, whether newly adopted or currently owned by our readers. Additional Comments We take in cocker spaniels both from shelters and owners into our foster and adopt program, and find them new forever homes. We also work with other Cocker Spaniel Rescue groups and shelters in giving them financial assistance for the medical/veterinary care of cocker spaniels in their possession.

Additional Comments from the Organization

We are proud to be members of the NYCACC New Hope Program, and the Mayor's Alliance for NYC Animals.
