Also Known As: FictionAlley
PO Box 382573FictionAlley was founded in the summer of 2001 by a dozen Harry Potter fans - mostly fanfic writers and artists. FictionAlley was created to archive all Harry Potter fanfic, regardless of the SHIP, as long as the story met a reasonable standard for grammar and spelling, and did not merit an "adults only" rating. All of the founding mods desired a community in which no person would be unreasonably censored or senselessly banned - a place where people could state their ideas and engage in spirited and thought-provoking debates, discussions, and analysis. FictionAlley also created a beta reader exchange and writing discussion boards, which rapidly grew into FictionAlley Park. The Park hosts over one million discussion posts and over a million reviews from nearly 100,000 registered users on topics ranging from analysis of individual characters and scenes from the Harry Potter books and films to the development of original writing. To provide readers with an easy way to find stories that they might enjoy, FictionAlley is divided into four houses: Schnoogle hosts novel length fics (at least 60 pages long) from all genres; TheDarkArts includes mysteries, dramas, angsty stories and anything serious; AstronomyTower features romance stories of all lengths; and Riddikulus is the home for funny fics. HPInkPot.org hosts fan essays on a wide range of Harry Potter topics. ArtisticAlley.org hosts over twenty thousand fan- and fantasy-art works, including drawings, paintings, videos, fan-films and crafts by thousands of artists, as well as half a dozen message boards where artists discuss technique and creative issues. SpellCast.com is our podcast about and for the fandom, and HPWiki.com hosts thousands of pages of information about characters, settings, theories and debates from and about the Harry Potter series. Since 2003, FictionAlley has sponsored activities at Harry Potter conferences around the world, and has hosted movie showings in New York City and elsewhere for Goblet of Fire and Prisoner of Azkaban, as well as for the release of Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince. In 2006, FictionAlley granted the first three Katie O''Brien Memorial Scholarships - a writer, an artist and a community service volunteer were each awarded $500 to use towards schooling, books and materials.
Our major focus is in keeping the site online. We have expenses each year that focus on domain name renewal fees, back-end software programs, podcast-hosting and things like microphones so we can cover fan-events like conferences, and conduct interviews for our podcasts. We also give three $500 scholarships each year. The scholarships are funded by donations, including individuals' purchases of Katie O'Brien Memorial Scholarship wristbands via http://www.fictionalley.org/wristbands.html. And since 2003, we have been a sponsor at Harry Potter conferences, as well as other fan-events like Spellbound, the Chicago release party for BooK Six, and movie events for Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire. We plan to be involved in events surrounding the release of the movie of Order of the Phoenix and the release of the final Harry Potter book.
FictionAlley.org was created to archive all Harry Potter fanfiction, and later, fan art, regardless of character-focus, theme or ship. The site now encompasses discussion forums, fan-made videos and crafts, writing workshops and tips, a podcast, a blog and a wiki.
