MISSION AND PROGRAMS
Mission
Child Family Health International (CFHI) is a global family of committed professionals and students who work at the grassroots level to promote the health of the world community.
Programs
CFHI works to advance Primary Healthcare in underserved communities in Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, and South Africa. We do this by working with local healthcare professionals to create programs that attract international students, by providing medical supplies and equipment, funding grassroots community health projects, and professional development for local health professionals to advance their skills.
Additional Comments from the Organization
Our overhead is 4.8%. In 2007, Charity Navigator awarded CFHI our fourth consecutive 4-star rating--the highest available--due to our low overhead and high efficiency. In the US, less than 5% of charities achieve this accolade. Read the full report here.
CFHI works at 17 sites in 6 countries with over 250 partners and has enrolled students from over 35 countries, with 4,500+ alumni to date. We have also partnered with leading universities, such as the University of California at Davis, Stanford University School of Medicine and Duke University's School of Nursing to create institutional programs that leverage the academic pedigree of the campus with the deep and longstanding relationships CFHI has cultivated with the community.
We have supported locally devised community health projects in all of the countries where we are active?some of them award-winning?and have collaborated with our partners to offer professional development opportunities that not only address the issue of brain drain but also provide sustainable resources and trainings.
GOALS AND RESULTS
Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007
Working with a strengths-based model at the grassroots level allows CFHI to build on the strengths of the local community. By seeking out dedicated local health professionals and building long-term relatinships with them, we are able to respond directly to the needs of the community. The community also gains a level of empowerment as they see their own healthcare professionals in the role as local experts.
Additionally over 5,000 students have participated in CFHI Global Health Education Programs and over $9MM in medical Supplies and equipment have been suplied to local communities.
- CFHI has provided over $8 million worth of recycled medical supplies since 1995 to its global partners as well as disaster-stricken communities around the world.
- CFHI also offers micro-grants to its partners to enable them to put their expertise into practice and address their own community's particular healthcare needs.
Objectives for Fiscal Year Beginning January 1, 2008
- Provide international service-learning health electives for 850+ pre-medical, medical and other allied health students (including nursing, naturpathic, ostepathic, PA's, MPH and others).
- To strengthen its global health programs by rolling in EQ training and creating more leadership opportunities for tomorrow's healthcare ambassadors in a way that is socially responsible and financially just.
- Train health promoters and provide medical services for tens of thousands of people through our international partners.
Self Assessment
CFHI regularly evaluates all of our programmatic work. We receive high satisfaction rates (90% of alumni would recommend the program to a colleague) from our international program alumni, and our global partners regularly provide feedback about what is working and what is not at each site.

Balance Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007
Note: The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
