Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Iranian American Jewish Federation of NY (IAJF) goals fall into four major areas.
1. IAJF aims to promote unity among the large contingent of Iranian Jews in the greater New York metropolitan area, and establish an influential voice for the community in the United States and Israel. IAJF acts as a conduit between the community and other groups and organizations with respect to matters that affect their lives and matters pertaining to the State of Israel.
2. IAJF seeks to instill Jewish and Zionist values, creating for our children a sense of pride in their Jewish culture and heritage, and educating the community at large about Israel and its struggle for survival. To that end, IAJF endeavors to support programs that empower the people of Israel.
3. IAJF works to serve the community, providing aid to social, educational and medical programs in Israel, New York and around the world to assist those in need.
4. IAJF strives to develop and promote programs to empower the next generation of leaders in education, public affairs and business.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
IAJF is continually striving to improve and strengthen its impact in meeting its mission and goals. IAJF develops relationships with other organizations, working in concert to expand its reach in terms of education, participation and fundraising. IAJF utilizes creative programming and social media to increase awareness and promote educational and fundraising efforts. Annual fundraising events are held to support IAJF's ability to make allocations in its goal areas. The IAJF board and Young Leadership board meet regularly to plan and to keep the organization focused on its goals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
IAJF has a strong and dedicated Board of Trustees composed of independently voting, committed, and talented volunteers. Each board member spends time and energy ensuring that the goals, mission, and objectives are faithfully executed. The board has proven fundraising ability, and a thoughtful allocation process, designed to ensure that the programs and projects that fit IAJF's mission are funded and supported to be successful. IAJF has strong relationships both within the community and around the world with other organizations. In addition, IAJF has developed a Young Leadership Board empowered to creatively target a new generation of leaders, educating them and including them in IAJF's mission and charitable endeavors.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
With respect to IAJF's goals of unifying the community and empowering a new generation of leaders, IAJF and its Young Leadership have grown significantly every year, with increased attendance and participation, as well as recognition in the community. IAJF will continue to reach out to uninvolved members of the community to strengthen its unifying position and empower new leaders.
In terms of IAJF's goals to serve the community and support Israel, to date IAJF has supported 190 organizations around the world, each allocation thoughtfully chosen to meet IAJF's mission. Some examples include: IAJF has supported essential healthcare by sponsoring the physical and occupational therapy room in the new Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower at Hadassah Medical Center. IAJF has supported the needy by sponsoring daily distribution of lunches to children in elementary schools in Nahariya. IAJF partnered with Jewish Heart for Africa's effort to bring innovative sustainable Israeli technologies to African villages, including solar systems to power African schools, medical clinics and water pumping systems. Locally, IAJF supported customized programs through the Sid Jacobson JCC for seniors suffer from Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's and various other forms of dementia.
These examples are merely a tiny slice of IAJF's accomplishments thus far. There is always more to be done, though, and IAJF strives every year to improve its fundraising in order to have more funds available annually to help a growing number of people around the world.
