Develop an expanding pool of talented community leaders.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Keokuk Area Community Foundation Grant Fund
Every year, The Keokuk Area Community Foundation Grant Endowment Fund distributes grants to Tri-State Area nonprofits. The deadline for Keokuk Area Community Foundation Grant Endowment Fund Grant Applications is in the Fall of every year. Grants are normally awarded in November of the same year an application is received. If awarded a grant, the organization will receive funding in December.
Historically, past grants have been awarded in the range from a few hundred dollars to $5,000. There may be occasions where the Keokuk Area Community Foundation Grant Committee may award partial funding to some or all grant applicants. The Keokuk Area Community Foundation Board of Directors has the responsibility of approving all grants.
The Grant Endowment Capital Campaign
Until now, the money for grants awarded by the Keokuk Area Community Foundation has been provided largely by the Agnes Benstein Trust, with the goal of enabling the community foundation to operate for a period of time without needing to concentrate on fund-raising.
After supporting a decade of successful operation and growth of the community foundation, the Benstein Trust distributed its remaining funds to the Keokuk Area Community Foundation in 2015. Half of these funds were used to create The Grant Endowment Fund. The other half has been used to continue grants at the current level of approximately $50,000/year for the next few years.
The Keokuk Area Community Foundation is starting its first capital campaign to raise new funds for The Grant Endowment Fund that will ensure we can continue to provide critical funding for organizations that make our community such a great place in which to live. The Capital Campaign Goal is to raise at least $750,000, which when added to the existing $200,000 funded by the Benstein Trust is a large part of the $1,200,000 endowment predicted to sustain the current level of the annual grant program. The remaining funds will come from estate gifts and future donations to The Grant Endowment Fund.
Designated Fund Management
A Designated Fund is established by a donor to provide ongoing support for a specific nonprofit organization or purpose. The nonprofit organization you choose will receive annual gifts from your fund, creating a stable income stream. You may choose one or more organizations to support through a Designated Fund.
Agency Fund Endowment Building
An Agency Fund is established by a local nonprofit organization to provide support for the organization. Partnering with the Keokuk Area Community Foundation allows nonprofits to invest in a larger pool of assets, which can lead to greater growth, greater income and lower investment fees. All gifts to the organization’s endowed fund are tax deductible and may benefit from the 25 percent state income tax credit through the Endow Iowa Tax Credit Program. Distributions from the fund are granted back to the agency to be used at the discretion of its governing board. Nonprofits can create their Agency Fund as an endowed, non-endowed or quasi-endowed fund.
Scholarships
The Keokuk Area Community Foundation Scholarship Program recognizes student achievements and supports deserving students. Thanks to our family of donors, we have annual scholarships to provide funding to Tri-State Area high-school and college students.
Endowment Building
An Endowment is a financial asset donation made to a non-profit organization. The principle amount given is never spent; only a portion of income earned each year is distributed to nonprofit organizations, churches, charities or schools in the form of grants.
