Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Haiti Nursing Foundation (HNF) seeks to improve health in Haiti by supporting the advancement of quality nursing education. Currently, HNF partners with Faculté des Sciences Infirmières de l'Université Episcopale d'Haïti (FSIL) in Léogâne, which was the first school in Haiti to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. FSIL is entirely Haitian run, but relies on the financial support provided by HNF.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Haiti Nursing Foundation (HNF) acts as the institutional advancement arm of our partner school, Faculté des Sciences Infirmières de l'Université Episcopale d'Haïti (FSIL) in Léogâne by providing financial and professional support. HNF leads fundraising efforts throughout the year to garner support for FSIL and to help the nursing school reach its goals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Haiti Nursing Foundation is run by two full-time staff and a board of 18 dedicated volunteers (including 3 ex officio members). Since HNF's inception, staff and board members have assisted in raising over $3 million in financial support for nursing education in Haiti. The board is comprised of a mix of nursing professionals, business professionals, attorneys, and nonprofit leaders all dedicated to HNF's mission and vision.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since our inception, HNF has provided over $2.3 million in financial support to our partner school, Faculté des Sciences Infirmières de l'Université Episcopale d'Haïti (FSIL). The school has graduated 11 classes, totaling 202 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees and 16 Family Nurse Practitioner Degrees. The FSIL campus has expanded physically as well. Additional classrooms and dorms, a security wall, an auditorium, a computer lab, a dean's residence, & an administration wing have been constructed. A guest house was also built and provides an important revenue stream for the school, as well as comfortable lodging for guests visiting the school. The school continues to grow it's student body and programs. With Haiti Nursing Foundation's support, in the past year, FSIL has launched a Nurse Midwifery program a second cohort of Family Nurse Practitioner students. Over the next year, HNF will be seeking funding for a student computer lab, and a 40-passenger bus to transport students to clinical sites.
