What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Book Donations
Mom to Madre gives books to children and families in San Diego County. Since October, 2009, we have given more than 42,814+ books to children, families and organizations.
Back to School Book Drive
Our goal is to collect 500 children's books that are in excellent condition to donate to incoming kindergartners who teachers determine need books at home.
Bilingual Literacy and Parenting Presentations
Mom to Madre provides volunteer speakers who are parents and experienced professionals to speak to parent groups participating in social service programs that serve low-income families.
Family Literacy Parties
We go to the sites of social service programs to provide literacy parties. We reach families and children of all ages. Our exceptional volunteers create special events with art projects, book selection, and fun snacks. We accomplish all this within one hour. During our years of operation, we have seen some of these children grow and prosper.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To provide bilingual information to parents on early literacy and kind parenting practices to parents attending parent meetings at preschools and social service programs in San Diego County at least 100 presentations and events annually.
To donate 5000 books to children, families, and organizations in San Diego County annually.
To collect at least 2000 books through two book drives and donations from the community annually.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To continue our outreach to the preschool communities that serve low income families in San Diego County.
To maintain our strong relationships with the preschools we serve with book donations.
To promote our book drives on social media, by mail, and through personal contact.
To promote our need for book donations through networking and "word of mouth" by our friends and supporters.
To raise funds to purchase books through our Annual Campaign.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a positive relationship with providers in the Head Start and Social Service community due to our reliability and the quality of the work we provide. We are invited to speak and are known in the community. We have accomplished this each year without having to advertise or solicit work. Our invitations come from repeat clients and new clients who have heard about us from colleagues.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have far exceeded our earliest expectations of providing 18 presentations to parents attending Head Start parent meetings in 2009-2010. To date, January 2018, we have given more than 915 presentations in the San Diego County and have given more than 38,000 books to children, families and organizations. (In 2010, we aimed to give 1500 books.) We have established ourselves as a reliable source for speakers on parenting and literacy issues; and many organizations invite us to come for presentations and "Family Literacy Parties" each year.
We need to expand our volunteer base and develop a strong fundraising strategy.
