Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry, and healthy. One in three families in America experiences a baby diaper need. The lack of clean diapers prevents families from utilizing daycare and other options available in order to seek gainful employment and or furthering their education. We also provide incontinence supplies to the disabled or adults in the community through partnering agencies that are unable to provide these items for themselves. There are NO government programs that pay for or provide diapers. We are working to bridge the gap in public assistance.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Baby Diapers
Our baby diapers are provided to our Partner Agencies and ultimately to their registered clients in need. Each child is allowed a supplement of 60 diapers each month. We currently provide approximately 70,000 diapers per month which are given to over 1,200 babies.
Adult Diapers
We receive most of our adult incontinence supplies from families that have lost loved ones and organized donations in our community. These items are provided to any adult, senior or disabled youth, who needs them. If we have it available, we are happy to provide!

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Although we cannot alone change the world, we CAN help to make a little part of it better for families with small children. Receiving a monthly supply of diapers allows parents to use their funds for other expenses. Also, since babies attending daycare must have a supply of disposables, our diapers allow parents to work or attend classes to make a better life for their children.
We have talked to parents who use newspaper and grocery bags to diaper their babies, or dry and re-use disposables. This is NOT healthy, and it can lead to rashes and infections. It also affects the emotions of parents, leading to depression and a feeling of failure for not being able to afford the $70 per month that it takes for a supply of disposable diapers for a child. Lack of clean diapers or the inability to afford necessity items can lead to family stress. Families have to chose between food and diapers.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are a member of the National Diaper Bank Network, whose founding sponsor, Huggies, donates 22-million diapers each year. Because of that relationship, we receive one truckload of one-quarter-million diapers each year for very little cost. We purchase the additional diapers we need through a program at Huggies for NDBN member diaper banks at a cost of .13 per diaper, way below retail cost of 30 cents apiece.
We have volunteers come to our warehouse and build 20-pack bundles of diapers. Each month our 40+ partner agencies place an order for how many of each size they need for their registered clients. Our volunteers prepare the partner agency orders and the agencies pick up the diapers and distribute them to their registered clients who are in need. Each agency reports demographics back to us annually and we forward the data on to the National Diaper Bank Network and ultimately, Huggies.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
For the past two years we have been supplying over 850,000 diapers to families living in poverty in our region. Since 2010, we have supplies over 3.6 million diapers!
We have great local support including partner agencies, volunteers, foundations, businesses, and foundations. We all work together as The Alliance to keep all bottoms covered.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In 2010 what had started as a hobby, helping people in need rolled into a full time operational, non-profit agency serving the Great Lakes Bay region in Michigan. Since then we have distributed over 3.6 million diapers since our humble beginning. It is our desire to continue to increase our distribution, adding areas in our existing counties and then adding counties when resources allow.
Diaper need is in every county, and there are very few diaper banks in operation. Diaper need truly encompasses every age from our babies to aging adults.
It is also our plan to continue to assist others as they feel the desire to start a local diaper bank for their community. The knowledge we have gained can assist other diaper banks, leading to happier babies who are clean, dry, and healthy. Providing adults with incontinence supplies provides our aging population with continued independence and dignity.
