What we aim to solve
To provide excellent Christian education to God's precious children in the Wyoming, Michigan, community whether or not their families can pay the entire cost of that education.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Before School Care (BCS)
provides a safe, supervised environment and a consistent routine for preschool - grade 6 students (ages 3-12) needing care before school; designed to meet the needs of busy families.
Extended Day School (EDS)
provides a safe, supervised educational environment for preschool-kindergarten enrolled students (ages 3-12), including structured play activities and the reinforcement of concepts taught in the general education preschool and kindergarten classrooms. EDS is truly school, continued in the afternoon.
After School Care (ASC)
provides a safe, supervised environment and a consistent routine for preschool-grade 6 enrolled students (ages 3-12) needing care after school.
Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 6
AnchorPoint Christian School offers distinctively Christian programming focused on experiential learning for children. This takes place in a nurturing Christian environment. Our school enables parents/guardians to provide their children with an education that has a strong academic and biblical foundation. We base our education on the Bible--teaching our students to look at God's world around them with a Godly vision.
PRESCHOOL
Our teacher-developed curriculum is center based, using developmentally appropriate programming. This readiness approach enables students to enjoy learning through play. It prepares them for increased academic education in kindergarten and beyond. Our Christian, caring, and experienced teachers are committed to partnering with parents/guardians in all aspects of the child's development. Each teacher considers it a privilege to explore God's world with each child!
KINDERGARTEN
Our kindergarten provides a rich background of exciting experiences that encourage a well-rounded childhood. It may be a child's first experience to being away from home for longer periods of time, adjusting to a daily school routine. Good habits and attitudes are formed and basic skills are developed.
GRADES 1-6
AnchorPoint students in Grades 1-6 are organized into Learning Communities.
Team 1- grades 1 and 2
Team 2- grades 3 and 4
Team 3- grades 5 and 6
Why Learning Community Teams?
VERSATILITY
Students are freed from traditional grade level expectations. When a student enters a classroom setting that is intentionally multi-age, the teacher expects students to function at multiple levels. Wherever a child is academically, he/she is accepted and challenged, no matter what the chronological age.
FAMILIARITY
In traditional classrooms, a significant amount of time is absorbed at the beginning of the school year establishing class expectations and an atmosphere of academic rigor. In a multi-age community, students already familiar with expectations and patterns of operations can help others adjust. New learning occurs sooner.
OPPORTUNITY
New learning occurs at a deeper level when the learner has opportunities to explain to others what he/she has learned. Classroom community teams are guided by skilled teachers who understand the power of a multi-age learning environment that inspires creative problem solving and inquiry. They provide ample opportunities for students to verbalize new learning to classmates.
COMMUNITY
By purposefully structuring classes to include a span of ages, we build on the resulting diversity. In a group of children of different ages, competition is reduced and the atmosphere is generally collaborative. Students grouped in teams develop leadership skills, nurturing behaviors, and a sense of sharing. This stimulates a lifelong love of learning and passion for Christlike behavior.
As an example, each AnchorPoint Team is matched with a preschool or kindergarten class. Learning and playing together, these "buddies" all achieve more, through the grace of God. One of our teachers says, "When older students read to my preschoolers, push them on the swings, and make them presents for Christmas, they model Christ's love."
