What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Wild Wonder
Wild Wonder is a vacation camp curricula suitable for grades 1-8. The curricula invites a sense of wonder and teaches children about creation and Creator by combining Gods word, science and hands-on activities. Campers learn about the particulars of their place through exploring and discovering local plant and wildlife, habitats and water systems while learning and applying biblical stewardship and discipleship to their interaction with the people and place around them.
Love Your Place
A Rochas online community, Love Your Place, engages Christians in responding to global biodiversity and habitat loss in their local contexts. Love Your Plaace provides education, how-to guides, citizen science opportunities, theological and devotional resources, and regional and national events for members.
Florida Conservation Project
Titusville is home to beautiful beaches, the Kennedy Space Center, the Indian River Lagoon, and a stunning array of local wildlife. Situated at the border of the temperate and subtropical zones, Central Floridas biodiversity is particularly highincluding manatees, alligators, countless fish species, and numerous shorebirds.
Led by Dr. Robert Sluka, we are establishing a field study center to conduct research and education in the Indian River Lagoon and coastal marine habitats. Our team facilitates beach cleanups, microplastics research, and participates in horseshoe crab monitoring.
Texas Conservation Project
Central Texas is one of A Rocha USAs placed-based projects. Historically, the Conservation Project has partnered with local Christian organizations and acted as a catalyst and support for a wide variety of creation care initiatives. In 2021, we expanded its reach to serve Austins community at large with the following initiatives:
Picnics en el Arroyo is a program that connects the Spanish-speaking Hispanic community with nature by offering opportunities to explore, learn about local parks and creeks and enjoy the benefits of spending time in nature.
Land restoration in the Bull Creek watershed. In partnership with the Bull Creek Foundation, we are removing and managing invasive plant species on a 57-acre parcel of public land, home to many native species, including the endangered Golden cheek warbler.
Internship Program. Central Texas is one of A Rocha USA sites for the development of young professionals in the fields of conservation and environmental education.
Conservation Internship Program
Internships are a crucial next step for many recent graduates in the conservation field, where entry-level positions often require field experience in addition to a degree. Meanwhile, most conservation internships are unpaid, creating a barrier for many. Young Christian scientists in particular have few opportunities to integrate their faith with their scientific calling.
We launched the A Rocha USA Conservation Internship Program in 2022 to address these needs. The goal of the program is to provide an internship experience for young Christian scientists that combines professional mentoring, leadership development, and vocational support through on-site and remote experiences.
