What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
While at THI, women complete a personal development program that includes 12 life management courses including goal setting and a series of awareness classes. Specialized classes including parenting, substance abuse, health, and volunteering; and independent living courses including employment skills, landlord/tenant relations, and financial management. Most of the women are employed at least part-time and many are attending college, technical school, or completing their GED. Community volunteers are tutors, teachers, and mentors in the Woman to Woman Mentoring Program. Children often spend the weekend with their mothers. THI's weekend family program provides an opportunity for mothers and their children to be together in a supportive environment. Graduates are employed in a variety of jobs, from nursing assistant and construction worker to social worker and teacher working on her PhD. But what they all share is regaining self-confidence, self-esteem and independence.
The Center For Independent Living
These programs teach the necessary skills for independent living, which also instills confidence. Included programs: health and wellness, financial literacy, household management, child rearing, family reunification, social skills, and peer support.
