America's Nonprofit Pharmacy
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
For millions of people who battle both poverty and chronic disease, the cost of their critical medications is too expensive. People may choose to break pills or not take their medications at all which leads to poor health outcomes.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Prescription Drug Assistance
Rx Outreach is a fully licensed, nonprofit mail-order pharmacy whose mission is to provide affordable medications for people. Headquartered in Maryland Heights, Missouri, we address barriers to prescription medication access and adherence among the underserved. Since 2010, we have dispensed over 4 million critical and life-saving prescriptions to more than 450,000 patients across the United States at a cost savings of over $880,000,000 when compared to pharmacy retail prices. In 2020 alone, Rx Outreach provided free and low-cost medications to 30,520 patients resulting in an average cost savings of $1,800 per patient when compared to retail drug prices. Rx Outreach has maintained an A rating from the Better Business Bureau and both NABP and VIPPS accreditation.
Healthy ReEntry
The Rx Outreach ReEntry program helps previously incarcerated men and women get back on their feet during a critical transition- when they are returning to their family, friends, and community after serving time in prison. Although customizable, Healthy ReEntry provides 90 days of prescribed medications free-of-charge to newly released probationers and parolees. Since 2016, Healthy Transitions has served nearly 8,000 justice-involved individuals and dispensed more than 45,000 prescription medications free-of-charge.
Health and Wellness Outreach
Launched in 2014, the Health and Wellness Outreach program was developed to improve the health and quality of living of low-income seniors and at-risk populations. The goal of Health and Wellness Outreach is to teach participants simple, actionable ways to improve and better manage their health. Health and Wellness Outreach also aims to reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases in our community through education and interactive learning activities. Health and Wellness Outreach utilizes trained medical professionals to facilitate evidence-based health workshops such as Healthy lifestyles/fitness, Nutrition, Medication safety, and many others. Rx Outreach employs trained medical professionals to facilitate direct services such as health screenings, fitness classes and an annual Health and Wellness Expo in North St. Louis County in partnership with the United Way and YMCA. Since 2016, over 6,000 low-income seniors and Hispanics received health and wellness education.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Rx Outreach provides access to affordable medication. We strive to become the pharmacy of choice and champion for the poor and the providers who serve them. By providing free and reduced cost medications, we are trying to create a healthier community.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Rx Outreach is partnering with the hundreds of organizations such as Free Health Clinics and social service agencies across the country to access people who are in need of free or affordable medications. In addition to collaborations, we directly market to people through the internet and participate in health fairs across the country, where we dispense medications for free and sign people up for continued service. By working together, we are able to identify those at risk of not taking medications due to the cost.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Rx Outreach was first developed as a program of Express Scripts, then spun off as an independent nonprofit. The majority of key staff have a background with Express Scripts and were hand-selected to help Rx Outreach grow as a nonprofit. Their skills and abilities are our greatest assets.
Our state of the art automated pharmacy allows us to serve the volume of people who need us.
Our partnerships with medication manufacturing companies help us obtain the medications at a discounted rate to offer to clients.
Collaborations with health care providers and social service agencies are a key factor in reaching our goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Our progress for the 2021 calendar year is as follows:
• 30,520 people in need received medication at a significantly reduced cost or for free
• 187,768 prescriptions were filled
• People saved more than $54,936,000 on medications (compared to retail cost)
• 751,072 months of medication were dispensed
• Customer service agents took 192,192 calls to assist people with enrolling and obtaining medications
• Customer service call quality rating 98.20%
We continue to make progress to the long term goal of saving our patients over a billion dollars.
