What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pet Adoptions
Finding loving, forever homes for healthy and sound sterilized pets
SNAP (Spay-Neuter Assistance Program)
Our SNAP program focuses in on the underserved population of Eaton county. We subsidize spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats belonging to low-income families in our county.
TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program
A feral cat is an outdoor, free-roaming cat that is fearful of humans due to lack of interaction. Left unaltered (fixed), free-roaming cats continue to reproduce creating more homeless kittens. Trap Neuter Return is the answer for feral, stray and outdoor free-roaming cats and kittens.
According to scientific studies, free-roaming cats gain weight and live healthier lives after being altered. Trap Neuter Return programs are proven to stabilize and significantly reduce the size of free-roaming cat colonies. By limiting free-roaming cat populations, fewer unwanted and homeless cats are taken to shelters and euthanized.
What does our TNR program include?
*Free use of our live traps
*Free spay or neuter, a rabies vaccine, a distemper vaccine & mandatory ear tipping.
*Support during the trapping process. We are available to you by phone & email.
*Helpful literature and instructional videos
What our TNR program does NOT include…
*We can’t rehome or “get rid of” your feral (wild) cats. The “R” in TNR stands for RETURN. You must return the cat to where it came from. Cats have territories and it is crucial for them to be returned to that territory. If you have a special set of circumstances, let us know to discuss further.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goals for 2017 include our 3 new program goals
The first is to implement our SNAP program. We have a start date of February 28rd, 2017 (World Spay Day) and have funding to start this program. Our goal is to obtain more funding to keep this program running for as much of 2017 as possible.
Our second goal is to implement our emergency medical fund which will allow us to help a larger group of dogs & cats. Dogs and cats that have no one to champion for them and are truly in need because of veterinary cost.
The third goal of ECHS for 2017 will be implementing the Trap-Neuter-Return program for feral & stray cats. A truly needy group - most people do not want to pay to fix cats that are either not friendly or are not owned by them. By offering spay, neuter and vaccines for free, it will allow us to reach more cats in need.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our SNAP program is already happening. We have secured low cost vet care and we will be looking for more grant and fundraising options to make this happen.
Our emergency medical fund will be started on an "as needed" basis. As we get pets in that have special needs, we will fundraise specifically for their overage. This will also bring awareness to the public about our emergency medical fund with hopes that people will continue to give and assign their donations specific to this helpful fund.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Grants are already being looked at and assigned. Fundraisers are being planned in advance.
Our Board of Directors are a diverse group of people, each bringing a different skill set to the table. And all skills that will be helpful in generating media attention and fundraising skills to the table.
Our Director is a skilled grant writer, who has written many animal welfare grants over the last 7 years. She has also created & implemented all 3 of these programs for prior organizations successfully.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As of February 9th, 2017, we have secured funds for the SNAP program and are in the process of organizing many fundraising ideas.
