What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pittsburgh Sea Cadets
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps Pittsburgh Battalion is a federally-sponsored association for teenagers and pre-teens (age 10 through 17), who have or desire ambition, self-discipline, and a strong academic background. Our primary mission is to instill in Western Pennsylvania youth a desire to succeed as individuals and citizens, beginning with a solid foundation for building academic and social skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. Our goals include: * Develop in our youth an appreciation for Naval History, traditions, customs, and their role in national defense. * Develop in our youth a sense of pride in our nation, positive qualities of patriotism, courage and self-reliance, confidence and strong moral character, and good citizenship traits. * Develop in our youth an interest and skill in seamanship, seagoing, and aviation subjects. * Increase the advancement potential of Cadets who may later elect to serve in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Merchant Marines.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Pittsburgh Battalion aims to develop well rounded and educated citizens. We strive to ensure that all cadets that graduate the program or spend anytime in the unit, enroll in a college, trade, or armed services. However, we do not push cadets in any particular direction. We will provide them with the options that are available to them and assist them along the way.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We develop a yearly action plan for topics that we want to cover throughout the year. We also partner with local groups to provide programming or opportunities that we are not able to handle in house. In many cases, if we are able to obtain certifications or training to offer a program in house, we have necessary staff members become trained.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a dedicated volunteer staff with over 65 years of experience. Our staff includes teachers, former and retired military, IT professionals, and other professionals. Our staff is dedicated to ensuring the success of each and every cadet.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have successfully graduated cadets. We have a good training plan and training opportunities in place. We are still working on adding additional resources and volunteer staff to provide even more opportunities for cadets.
