Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The goals of the Florida Lupine Association are as follows:
•To provide education and information to members, breeders, governmental officials, shelter operators, and the general public for the ultimate benefit of lupine-type canines: wolves and wolfdogs.
•To assist with legal issues as they pertains to the wolf and wolfdog, for the ultimate benefit of these lupine animals.
•To coordinate and to cooperate with other national and regional wolfdog (education and rescue) organizations.
•To advance the interests of the wolfdog by encouraging cooperation and sportsman-like conduct at canine events: obedience trials; training classes/trials; working classes/trials; and/or wolfdog rendezvous.
•To encourage and to promote the responsible and prudent ownership of wolfdogs.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Florida Lupine Association (FLA) provides educational information on wolfdogs in the form of hard copy publications written and produced by FLA and distributed to members and free to shelters, veterinarians, and rescue facilities; electronically via our website; and verbally via presentations given at our annual rendezvous and to Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission's officer training session.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Florida Lupine Association's board of directors includes individuals with extensive experience in education, animal husbandry, canine health, containment and enrichment, rescue, genetics, phenotyping, fundraising, management, and event planning.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since its inception, the Florida Lupine Association (FLA) has established contacts with numerous animal control and shelter agencies, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Florida Rabies Advisory Committee, and the state veterinarian’s office; we have built a database of members and supporters; the board and members of FLA developed a Code of Ethics document that applies to FLA members and wolfdog owners, breeders, and rescuers; we have published a collection of educational pamphlets, flyers, and brochures that are distributed by FLA and many animal agencies in the state of Florida; and we publish a quarterly newsletter entitled Florida Lupine News. At present, FLA is the only remaining organization of its type in the country.
