Rites of Passage Media Project
Urgent, Inc.'s Rites of Passage Program (ROP) Youth Media Project is a trans-media edutainment (education + entertainment) arts enrichment program that teaches and inspires youth to critically examine, research, and reflect on issues that affect their lives and communities using video, photography, poetry and performance. This exploration helps youth gain access to the power of their voice as well as a sense of personal investment in their community. The participatory asset based approach emphasizes utilizing cultural assets, leadership development, academic achievement and social connectivity to help youth avoid risky behaviors and develop pro-social identities through the exhibition, performance and presentation of their cause specific artistic works.
Youth Empowerment After School Program
This program provides elementary school boys and girls an alternative to their hectic day by providing a safe place after school where they find peace and love in a supportive nurturing environment that helps them discover their hidden talents, build skills and identify their multiple intelligences. Students begin their afternoon by taking part in a welcoming non-traditional opening circle where the breath is king; peace rules the day and self-love is unabashedly celebrated. From taking part in impromptu skits, playing African drums, learning life skills or building physical stamina there is never a dull moment when kids gain access to their unique and special gifts to share with the world. All this happens at the Youth Empowerment After School Program!
Youth Empowerment Summer Camp
YES! Camp provides a unique gender specific safe space where girls are able to dream, explore, reflect and find their own voice to express the person they are becoming. For girls, as they approach adolescence, they face all kinds of challenges from society: pressure to be perfect, expectations about beauty, beliefs about food and eating, and more. It's a pivotal time in a girl's life, when their whole world is starting to change, inside and out. This is the time to strengthen girls’ sense of self and that inner belief in who they are that will see her through the teen years. These themes are explored through the arts, drama, dance, arts & crafts, yoga, cultural music, fitness, literacy and etiquette.
Film Arts & Culture Coding Entrepreneurship (FACE)
Urgent, Inc.'s Film Arts & Culture Coding Entrepreneurship (FACE) program is a year round youth employment, work preparedness and leadership enrichment program designed to fuel the Creative Design, Tourism & Hospitality and Information Technology growth industries identified in Miami Dade County. The program's successful innovative design is an apprentice/internship hybrid model that blends classroom learning, occupation skill building and project based learning under the supervision and training of industry professionals. Youth receive academic support and gain real world work experience that supports the development of 21st Century life/social skills. Through tutoring, college readiness coaching, participation on the youth leadership council, course credit and paid internships youth develop supportive connections with positive caring adults and peers, master new occupational skills, and grow their professional network as they transition from high school to post-secondary education and demonstrate work readiness. Learning culminates in a series of community expo events.
