Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
CASI National Scholarship Program
CASI is proud to support something very special - a National Scholarship Program that is available for students pursuing post-high school education both in the areas of academic or trade/technical school. Student applications can be made through all of our local CASI Pods (Chapters).
CASI bestows a college scholarship to the top graduating student from Terlingua High School, with some technical school scholarships also awarded. On September 9, 2000, at the annual meeting of the Great Peppers (Pod/Chapter Presidents) held in Denver, Colorado, the Great Peppers approved a motion to enhance our scholarship program to include students from across the United States and beyond. The CASI National Scholarship Program was immediately established to assist with this endeavor.
To benefit the CASI National Scholarship Program, there is a day of competition added to our Terlingua International Chili Championship (held the first Saturday in November each year). All of the money raised on Friday of that week benefits the CASI Scholarship Program.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
CASI's Vision Statement: "Making a positive difference in someone's life with every pot of chili cooked." This vision portrays the attitude of every CASI cook as we fire up our stove to cook a pot of chili at a charity or community CASI sanctioned event.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We meet our vision by providing infrastructure to community and charity events through our sanctioning process:
- Integrity – the oldest chili event sanctioning organization,
- Experience – our referees are experienced and can teach your volunteers to be successful,
- A built in base of potential contestants and judges
- A support system – CASI had 66 Pods (chapters) throughout the USA and Canada.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
What does CASI provide to a CASI Sanctioned Contest?
- Listing in the monthly Terlingua Trails event listing; no charge. Larger ads may be purchased to spotlight your event.
- A Regional or Area Referee will be assigned to your event to observe and answer questions.
- Contestant judging cup tickets are available upon request.
- Additional copies of The Terlingua Trails are available upon request.
- Hill Country Software's proprietary program for tallying scores can be downloaded.
- CASI's Proprietary uniform rules for the competition.
- All cookoff forms are available online.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Each year CASI sanctions nearly 500 chili cookoffs internationally, as qualifying events for the CASI Terlingua International Chili Championship ©, known as TICC. These sanctioned local events raise over $1,000,000 annually for the local and national charities which work with the local organizers.
This ultimate chili championship is held the first Saturday of November annually at Rancho CASI de los Chisos, near Terlingua, Texas. The CASI Championship event is a fundraiser for local Terlingua charities and organizations and also fund CASI's National Scholarship programs. CASI currently has 27 scholarship recipients enrolled in a higher education institute.
