Charting Impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Self-reported by organization

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our work is to make one simple insight into the root cause of all human misery and one simple act of inward looking that effectively eliminates that cause universally available and accessible within the entire human community.
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We organize public meetings in person and online. We publish paper books, ebooks, videos and audios to help spread our message. We maintain a very active discussion forum where members help one another in better understanding the process of recovery and regeneration that comes after performing the act of looking at yourself. We maintain an active presence in social sites and other online venues. We are always seeking invitations to speak with people about our method. We offer translations of our materials in several languages.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a strong determination to see our method made available free of charge everywhere in the world. We have a network of volunteers spread all over the world who are engaged in a grassroots movement to spread word of our method. Free membership in our discussion forums, podcast, blog, is increasing more and more. Our free online meetings attract more and more people and they spread the word to their friends and family. We are always open to suggestions and criticism.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
Our experience of 17 years speaking with people has proven to us that the only requirement to achieve the desired result with our method is to try it. Anyone who tries it will succeed. For each person, the result will come over time, according to the individual's personality and previous life experience, but the success is certain.

Our main goal is to make this method available to all free of charge. Therefore, it seems to us that the best way to measure our success is how widespread our message is. We measure our success by the huge increase in traffic to our website, the number of downloads of our free ebooks, our increasing forum membership, and the viewership of our YouTube Channel.

We receive letters and emails from people all over the world telling us how our method has changed their lives.

There are a few medical studies being done right now to evaluate the effectiveness of our method in a hospital setting.

A PhD candidate is preparing a thesis about our method in South Africa.

A group of mental health practitioners in Canada has produced a paper called "The Radical Act of Inward Looking" and it is being published in a peer-reviewed psychology journal.

There is an online group in Ukraine that is dedicated to discussing our method. It has more than 500 members.

We have volunteer translators translating our ebooks and we make them available free of charge.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
It took us many years to develop a method that is simple and easy to follow, and can be passed on to anyone willing to try it.
We have grown our audience over the years to many thousands of people all over the world.

We encourage self-reliance above all. Most of the people hear our message, try our method, and go though the process on their own. Many will often get in touch with us after a few years to tell us that the method really worked for them and they are happy.

Our goal is to reach 10% of the human population with the invitation to try our method. It is well documented that if the outlook of ten percent of any group of humans changes, it will cause the outlook of all in the group to change.

Assuming this theory is true, and since there are about seven billion human beings alive today, we need only to bring this idea of looking at yourself to the minds of 700 million of us to trigger a tipping point. And in time, this will drive us all sane and reverse our headlong rush to self-destruction.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR FISCAL YEAR

Mr. John William Sherman

co-chief executive

Mrs. Carla Sherman

BIO

Like everyone, John spent most of his life unconsciously searching for the one perfect path out of the wilderness of human life; the one perfect idea, the one perfect thing to think, to understand, to want, to have, to believe, to become that would bring him salvation and satisfaction. The course of John's search was extreme compared to most, but the result was the same: nothing worked, nothing ever does.

Late in 1975, when he was 33 years old, John discovered the perfect idea of perfect Social Justice, and set out to become the perfect Communist revolutionary. He joined with a small group of anarcho-communist radicals, and embarked upon four years of bank robberies, property bombings, gunfights with the police, two escapes from federal prisons and two years on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List; all done in the name of supporting the struggles of the American worker for justice. In the end it came to nothing.

In January of 1976, he was shot and captured during a bank robbery; in March, he escaped.

In 1978, after two years on the run, robbing banks and organizing property bombings, John was captured by the FBI, tried, convicted, and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

In March of 1979, he escaped again from the federal prison where he was serving his sentence. In April of 1981, after two years on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, he was finally captured for the last time and returned to prison.

In June of 1994, in the fifteenth year of his imprisonment, the American spiritual teacher Gangaji came to the prison where John was serving his sentence. John found himself face to face with her and, in that meeting, discovered himself to be eternally and unconditionally free. He spent more than a year in the fully open awareness of spiritual awakening, which collapsed suddenly, leaving him bereft.

John spent the rest of his time in prison trying to find something that he could do that would bring him back to the state of indifference and apathy that he had enjoyed prior to meeting Gangaji and being taken by the false promise of freedom. This effort unexpectedly brought him to true freedom by means of an extremely simple act of attention.

Three and a half years later, in 1998, he was released on parole. Upon his release, John moved to Boulder, Colorado.

John and Carla were married in June of 1999, in San Rafael, California. In 2001, John and Carla moved to Ojai, California, where they live with their cat, Switters. Carla became an American citizen in February of 2007 and, in August of 2007, John was released from parole.

STATEMENT FROM THE CEO

"Our mission in support of our exempt purpose is to bring news of a simple act of looking inward at yourself to the ears of at least 700 million people around the world within a relatively short period of time (5-10 years). We believe that this will trigger a tipping point in the human outlook as to the fundamental nature of human life. We believe that in time, this shift in outlook will drive us all sane and reverse our headlong rush to self-destruction.

For this purpose, in September of 2011, we launched the Just One Look project, whose goal is to bring the invitation to experience the power of human consciousness to free itself of the fear of life to all humanity. This is now the main focus of our work to make peace available to all.

The first worldwide event of the Just One Look project took place on January 13, 2013 and it was broadcast worldwide via the Internet. Hundreds of people around the world stopped whatever they were doing in that moment and simultaneously took a few seconds to look inward at themselves. This event launched a global effort to bring the news of the Just One Look experiment into the broad global consciousness.

Our discussion forum is a gathering place for our community to discuss their experience with looking at themselves, their recovery from the fear-disease, and their experience of leading a saner life. Anyone can join the forum and it is free of charge for all. We also offer free online meetings regularly where we answer questions and provide guidance."
