PROVING INNOCENCE
Freeing The Wrongfully Convicted
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We address the problem of wrongful convictions within our criminal justice system. We do so from many angles: - We provide professional investigation services to Michigan Innocence Projects. - We educate the public through our website, newsletters, and blogs. - We advocate for systemic change, educating people regarding legislative initiatives and encouraging them to make their voices heard. - We support wrongfully convicted people yet to be exonerated and released. - We financially assist wrongfully convicted persons immediately upon their exoneration or their release pending their exoneration.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Awareness Program
Our main source of building awareness is our website, www.provinginnocence.org, newsletter, tweets and Facebook posts. Four hundred signed up for the newsletter, over 3,000 followers on Twitter and an active Facebook presence.
Investigation Program
The heart of PI: Our goal is to provide investigation services to innocence organizations within Michigan. Instead of working on cases as a whole, our role is to follow up on specific requests, such as witness location and interviews. Having partnered with a national detective agency, we provide the best investigator(s) for a given request. This allows us to efficiently and effectively aid MIC in making progress on their cases.
Walking Free Fund
The WFF is to provide immediate financial assistance upon the exoneration or anticipated exoneration. $750 will be given to those who are also eligible for the Innocence Network Edmundson Walking Fund and $1,000 will be given to those not eligible. There are no requirements beyond PI having faith in the group that led their fight for exoneration.
