Foster Dog Program
Old Dogs New Digs builds a network of families throughout Maine who are willing and able to give senior dogs a foster home so that we can those dogs out of stressful and frightening shelter environments and into a home environment where they are loved, safe, and comfortable while they wait for us to find the right forever home for them.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We aim to
1) prevent old dogs from having to endure stressful shelter environments
2) release old dogs from stressful shelter environments
3) keep old dogs in their comfortable and loving home environments
4) get old dogs out of shelters and into comfortable and loving home environments
5) give old dogs all the veterinary care they need to relieve or prevent discomfort from chronic or acute illness
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We collaborate and partner with shelters, veterinarians, and the public to be aware as quickly as possible when an old dog is at risk. We maintain regular contact with shelters and veterinarians, so that they let us know when an old dog comes into their care and can use our help. We build awareness publicly through social media about what we do, so that anyone who is aware of an old dog who is at risk will come to us and allow us to help.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a strong volunteer force who have a depth and breadth of skills in critical areas:
1) Shelter management
2) Veterinary practices
3) Animal rescue
4) Marketing communications
5) Case management
Collectively, we are well equipped to navigate the shelter system, network for dogs who need help, and make a case for gaining financial and volunteer support.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have accomplished being part of finding more than 500 dogs loving, safe, and comfortable foster or forever homes in our first three years of establishing our mission.
