Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Camp Swift
For over 30 years, the Camp Swift Overnight Camp has been providing economically disadvantaged youth with a residential summer camp experience for free, while simultaneously providing teen counselors with opportunities to volunteer and make a real impact! At our Overnight Camp, we provide campers and counselors with nutritious meals, physical activity, and a safe environment in which to learn and play – all while fostering positive mentoring relationships between youth and teens. Activities are led by high school- and college-aged volunteers acting as role models for making positive choices in health, physical activity and behavior.
Our Overnight Camp sessions are typically 5 days and 4 nights, and are held at a beautiful, privately-owned camp facility in Prescott, AZ. Each session, we have approximately 150 3rd-6th grade campers, 55 teen counselors, and an additional 45 college-aged and adult volunteers helping to make camp possible.
Swift After School
Unlike many after school programs that are based solely around academic tutoring, Camp Swift’s after school program acts as a fun, safe, and free space for youth and teens to engage with one-another after the academic school day is over. Camp Swift partners with Echo Mountain Primary School’s After the Bell program to offer a fun and enriching after-school experience. Swift after School participants are hand-selected by school staff to participate in our programs. Because students who participate in Swift after School have the opportunity to attend our Overnight Camp in the summer, Swift after School provides an incentive for students to be well-behaved and work hard in school.
This program is held weekly, and involves two hours of programming. For the first hour, Camp Swift counselors are invited to assist with After the Bell Tutoring. The second hour is a small taste of the ‘camp’ experience, and is different each week. Whether its sports, arts and crafts, or social enrichment games, all Swift after School activities include an element that’s most important to us – Fun!
Each week we have approximately 50 3rd-6th grade youth and 20 teen counselors participate in Swift after School.
Swift Saturdays
The Swift Saturdays program was first developed in response to a lack of safe programming available for economically disadvantaged youth on the weekend. It is held in partnership with the PVUSD 21st Century Community Learning Center, and like all of our other programs, Swift Saturdays fosters mentor relationships between youth and teens through fun and safe activities that aim to strengthen social skills and empower everyone involved. If you are considering volunteering in any of Camp Swift’s programs, Swift Saturdays is a great way to come see what we do – contact us if you’re interested in checking one out!
Swift Saturdays is a free 2.5-hour program that is held monthly throughout the school year. Approximately 50 3rd-6th grade youth and 20 teen counselors participate at each Swift Saturday.
Club Swift
Club Swift was developed in response to a group of former Overnight Camp campers who had aged out of the program and wanted to become Camp Swift counselors. Club Swift functions as a counselor training program and year-round opportunity for teen involvement.
The Club Swift program consists of approximately 20 9th-12th grade teens and meets weekly to develop the leadership, communication, and social skills that are important to not only be successful Camp Swift counselors, but also to become successful leaders in the community. Specific programming content is largely participant driven, but includes college-prep, financial literacy, and other subjects that serve to ensure future success. In addition to weekly meetings, Club Swift counselors are expected to attend Swift After School, Swift Saturdays, and Swift in the Summer.
Team Swift
Team Swift is an additional leadership opportunity for current counselors to be the teen voice for overall Camp Swift decisions. The mission of Team Swift is to inspire our teen board members to make a positive difference in their community and equip them with the skills necessary to pursue their goals for Camp Swift and beyond.
Members of Team Swift serve as ambassadors for the organization by assisting with counselor recruitment, fundraising, community outreach, and program development. Participation on this board empowers teens to play an active role in a variety of aspects of running a nonprofit organization.
Team Swift meets bi-weekly and is made up of approximately 15 teens annually (must have attended at least one session of Overnight Camp to apply).
