Annual Concert Series; Music Education Programs
As the Central Coast region of CA's only professional symphony orchestra, the Santa Barbara Symphony creates unique programs that leverage and showcase the power and diversity of symphonic music and the talent and treasure of Santa Barbara’s creative forces. With the musicians being some of the most sought-after orchestral and film studio musicians in the region, as well as world premiere commissions and renowned guest artists from around the globe, the Symphony curates an annual performance season of unique experiences that create connection, engagement, and enrichment from October–June, inspiring and delighting thousands of residents and visitors alike.
The Symphony also provides equitable access to more hands-on, high-quality music education for 3rd- 12th-grade students in the region through a series of connected programs designed to support and engage them every step along their musical journey and provide a pipeline to the professional symphony.
Music Education
The Santa Barbara Symphony's music education programs are the only ones in the region led by a professional symphony orchestra and are provided for free at Santa Barbara County schools, serving a majority of Title I schools. as well as through our three Youth Ensembles that are tuition based with scholarships available for low-income students which provides a free instrument loan and repairs, all music and supplies, and private lessons. Music education programs provide consistent, sequential, and equitable access to more hands-on, high-quality music education than any other organization in the region. Programs are grounded in excellence and are guided by the institutional imperative that all children should have access to the unique benefits music education provides.

Equity strategies

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
