GuideStar's search provider lets you search our nonprofit database from anywhere on the Web—you don't need to navigate to www.guidestar.org first. Once you install the search provider in your browser (see the instructions below), you'll be able to do keyword searches of our database. The search provider will take you directly to your search results page.
Note: The GuideStar search provider performs keyword searches only. If you subscriber to GuideStar Premium, you must still go to our site to use the people search or knowledge base search.
Note(2): If you have a GuideStar account, or are a GuideStar Charity Check or GuideStar Premium subscriber, have signed in to your account using the browser in which you installed the search provider, and if your session is still active, you will be taken directly to the search results page for your product(s). If you have no account or have notsigned in, you will be taken to the default search results page. You can sign in or create an account from that page.
Choose your browser:
Go to www.guidestar.org. The arrow in the search provider box will glow orange, indicating that a new search provider is available through automatic discovery. Click on the down arrow. You will be given the option to Add Search Provider > GuideStar. Click GuideStar and follow the prompts that appear. (Screen shot from IE 7.)
If GuideStar is your active search provider, enter the search term in the search box and click Enter or the magnifying glass icon.
If GuideStar is not your active search provider, enter the search term, click the down arrow on the right of the search provider box, select GuideStar, then click Enter or the magnifying glass icon.
Click the following link, then follow the prompts that appear.
Install GuideStar Nonprofit Search
Depending on your browser settings, you may need to allow blocked content.
Type your search term in the address bar and click on the GuideStar icon.
If GuideStar is not your active search provider,click the down arrow on the left of the search provider box, select GuideStar, then type your search term and click Enter or the magnifying glass icon.
Go to www.guidestar.org. Click the down arrow in the search provider box. Click Add GuideStar in the dropdown box.
If GuideStar is not your active search provider, enter the search term, click the down arrow on the left of the search provider box, select GuideStar, then click Enter or the magnifying glass icon.
Click the following link, then click OK in the box that pops up.
You will need to add the GuideStar search provider to your default search engines. Click the wrench icon that appears at the top of the page. (Screen shots from Chrome 17.)
Click Options in the dropdown menu, then click the Manage search engines button. In the "Other search engines" section, hover over the GuideStar entry until the Make default button appears. Click the button.
Once the GuideStar search provider has been added to the "Default search providers" section, you can leave it as your default search engine or select another search provider as your default by hovering over that browser's name until the Make default button appears and clicking on the button.
If GuideStar is your default search provider, type your search term in the combined address/search bar and click Enter.
If GuideStar is not your default search provider, type the keyword in the combined address/search bar and select the search with – GuideStar Search appended to it.
