What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

People across the globe do not have access to sophisticated medical procedures and care. They live with debilitating birth defects and injuries, adding burdens to already stressed families and communities, and are unable to realize their own full potential.

Surgicorps International Medical Missions

A Surgicorps week is usually structured the same; however the medical volunteers, patients and local staff make each trip distinctly unique. Each surgical assistance mission involves a day of screening potential patients, five days of surgeries (averaging 8-12 patients each day depending upon the intricacy of each case and the number of operating rooms available to the surgeons), and a day of post-op monitoring/ dressing change (for more complicated surgeries and/or surgeries completed later in the week.) Taking into account the needs of the partnering hospital, local professional staff is linked with the Surgicorps professionals to provide direct instruction and professional shadowing opportunities. The result of  sharing knowledge and  technical skills has proven immeasurable in terms of the impact on nursing, surgical skills, recovery room protocol and basic health care practices within the hosting clinic or hospital.

Surgicorps provides free medical and surgical services to people in need around the world. Each mission can serve 80 to 120 surgical patients, depending on the nature of the surgery and how many surgeons travel with the team. Our goal is to help as many people as possible to live full, productive, happy lives as contributing members of their families and communities.
