Mission and Programs

The mission of Rock Creek Conservancy is to restore Rock Creek and its parklands as a natural oasis for all people to appreciate and protect.

Program:Rock Creek Conservation Corps
Budget: NaN
Category: Environment
Population Served: Youth/Adolescents only (14 - 19 years)

Program Description:

Rock Creek Conservation Corps, or "RC3," is a summer youth conservation program that helps protect and revitalize Rock Creek and its parklands while providing transformative experiences to youth and empowering non-traditional leaders in conservation to develop and sustain a culture of environmental stewardship for future generations. RC3's goal is to accomplish critical conservation work while learning about the Rock Creek watershed: the extensive physical environment as it extends from its source to the Chesapeake Bay, the effects of modern life on water quality, the relationship of the park to the community, and the importance of maintaining a healthy watershed.

Program:Environmental Education
Budget: NaN
Category: Environment
Population Served: Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)

Program Description:

Rock Creek Conservancy's Environmental Education program provides place based, hands-on educational opportunities for Pre K-12 students in the Rock Creek watershed and its tributaries. Currently our offerings include an interactive watershed model presentation for the classroom and a watershed educational hike for outdoor exploration. We work with private, public, charter, and home schooling groups.
Program:Bush Honeysuckle Initiative
Budget: NaN
Category: Environment
Population Served:

Program Description:

After the success of Rock Creek Conservancy’s English Ivy Initiative, we have teamed up with the National Park Service and Montgomery County Parks to target Bush Honeysuckle, and invasive bush found commonly across the Rock Creek Watershed.
Program:Stream Team Program
Budget: NaN
Category: Environment
Population Served:

Program Description:

The Stream Team program is a neighborhood based group of volunteers who adopt a stretch of Rock Creek or one of its 30 tributaries. This is a wonderful opportunity for neighborhood volunteers who want to take an active role in monitoring and protecting “their” section of Rock Creek. We work closely with the National Park Service and Montgomery County Parks to mobilize teams along the full length of Rock Creek.
Program:Volunteer Cleanups
Budget: NaN
Category: Environment
Population Served:

Program Description:

We offer a variety of fun, educational, and rewarding volunteer experiences. Try an outdoor activity, such as trash cleanup or invasive plant removal. If you prefer to work inside, we have education, outreach, and advocacy opportunities, as well as office work.

Balance Sheet Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2015

Total Note: The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
