What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Program 1
WCCOG provides invaluable services for the City of Eastport...including sponsoring of a community-wide income survey refuting federal income data which precluded Eastport from eligibility for grant funds. WCCOGs response was immediate - they brought SCEC on board for a masterpiece of collaboration. The income survey kept Eastport in the running for millions of dollars in grant opportunities and provided valuable information for use by local, state, and federal agencies. - Elaine Abbott, City Manager, Eastport
Program 2
WCCOG keeps its members informed about upcoming trainings, grant opportunities, and technical assistance programs via e-newletters and news feeds through its website and Facebook page. WCCOG provides consultation on State Subdivision Legislation, Shoreland Zoning Regulations, Growth Management Legislation, land use ordinances, and floodplain management. WCCOG hosts regional workshops for its members. It supports towns and the county to obtain grants and other financial assistance. WCCOG assists municipalities with environmental planning and regulation as well as with issues associated with renewable resources planning and development.
Program 3
WCCOG collaborates with partners to enhance our ability to serve our communities. Our longstanding partnership with the Washington County Council of Governments adds immeasurably to our students educational experiences. Through the partnership, students can participate in real-world projects that have noticeable and meaningful impacts on the local community, build skills that are immediately applicabl upon graduation, and make connections with potential employers and supporters. Many graduates who hve participated in such projects tell us that their experience and connections with WCCOG projects have helped immensely in finding, landing and keeping jobs after graduation. Tora Johnson, PhD, Director/Associate Professor, GIS Service Center Laboratory, University of Maine at Machias
