Mission

The Grand is an iconic Art Deco theater in Downeast, Maine that fosters social interaction and growth in artists and audiences through the arts, entertainment, and education.

Notes from the nonprofit

VISION To be the anchor cultural organization for Downeast and Eastern Maine by presenting exciting and diverse visual and performing arts and education programs of the highest quality. Our commitment includes stewardship of this historically significant theater in Ellsworth, Maine. The Grand is committed to inclusion and encourages performers, patrons and volunteers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, including performers with disabilities, to audition and attend.

The Grand is a vital source of arts, education, and economic development for Hancock County and is seeking financial stability to continue to offer important programs to the community. Additionally, significant upgrades to the HVAC system are needed for proper and healthy air handling.

Education and Outreach

The Grand Education Department believes that through the exploration of theater arts, we build a stronger and more empathetic community. Our purpose is to engage and educate artists of all ages in an environment that is both nurturing and challenging. Through a wide variety of programming, we promote both the growth of the individual and meaningful community connections. We believe in collaborative, life-long learning that inspires skill acquisition as well as arts appreciation.

The Grand seeks to support creative growth in artists and audiences to create a thriving community of creatives who support and learn from each other.

The Grand seeks out and creates unique and diverse arts and entertainment specifically through engaging the community. We form and nurture partnerships to reach a broader demographic.

The Grand is a historic icon on Main Street and had a deep level of local support as well as devoted patrons and donors. It is also a key economic driver for downtown.

Pre COVID-19, we were on schedule to expand educational offerings and to grow theater audiences.
