Crg Medical Foundation for Patient Safety

Research and translating research into practice in: 1) improve the diagnostic procedures for hand functionality--all who have diagnoses of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Fibromyalgia in Houston, 2) "Share our Stories" program to get first-hand input from patients so preventive measures can be developed and publicized in order to increase overall safety throughout the United States, 3) work with collaborators and city officials to collect potenteially dangerous unused and expired from peoples' homes to help reduce accidental poisoning among children, drug misues by elderly, "pharming' by teenagers, and illegal possession in Houston with additional collections planned nation-wide, 4) use existing patient safety checklists and educational materials on basic healthcare concerns and problems patients and their families face, first in Houston and then post findings on our Web-site for worldwide use, 5) use existing Registries to capture and share information on a) hand functionality, b) patients' positive and negative experiences, c) unused and expired medicines to learn why approximately 40% of prescribed medicines are not taken, d) types of events patients experience while under medical treatment in order to learn "best practices" and prevent harm and 5) write a healthcare handbook for patients with distribution through the U.S. and beyond.
