Tax Preparation Assistance

CEOC is a IRS certified VITA site and provides free tax preparation to people with low or moderate incomes, persons with disabilities, seniors and limited English speaking taxpayers. This service is offered in Spanish, Amharic, Portuguese and English.

Population(s) Served

CEOC helps our clients apply for health insurance like MassHealth, Health Connector plans, Health Safety Net and dental plans through the Massachusetts Health Connector. We also help people choose the right plan and medical provider and make changes to their coverage if something changes in their lives, like losing a job or experiencing a change in family income.

Our state-certified SHINE Counselor is on hand to guide Medicare recipients and folks who are uninsured on benefits and options.

Our Navigator staff also makes health insurance less confusing. They provide information on co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums and many other terms that are hard to understand.

We also assist clients struggling to pay medical bills.

Population(s) Served

CEOC offers a broad range of services including reasonable accommodation requests, applications for affordable subsidized housing, Cambridge Housing Authority grievance & conference panels, eviction prevention, homeless shelter referral, resolving issues with another tenant, property manager or landlord, hoarding or housekeeping issues, legal services referral, rent arrearages, rent re-certification, sanitary code violations reporting, Section 8 applications, tenant’s rights education and advocacy, transfer requests, utility assistance, housing search, mediation assistance, and court attendance.

CEOC is also active in developing and advocating for public policy that supports and expands access to affordable housing opportunities.

Population(s) Served

We help individuals fill out their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to get the most financial aid they are eligible for. Our advocates can help review financial aid award letters to assist in choosing the college which is the best financial fit.

Population(s) Served

CEOC operates two food pantries, one in North Cambridge and one in Central Square. We feature in particular healthy foods, staples and culturally appropriate items. For instance, CEOC partners with ICNA Relief New England to provide Halal meat vouchers for our Muslim neighbors.

In addition, CEOC helps eligible clients apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Population(s) Served

CEOC provides financial education workshops and individual coaching to help clients achieve their financial goals. This includes creating a spending plan, saving for emergencies, making a plan to pay down debt, fixing credit report errors, and learning how to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft.

Population(s) Served

Journey to Hope is a new CEOC program that provides free, personalized support to teach Cambridge residents wellness skills based on their individual goals. Our specially trained staff helps our clients learn how to manage stress and reach a happier, healthier place. This service is provided in English, Haitian Creole, and Amharic.

Population(s) Served

CEOC assists clients in accessing and troubleshooting a variety of public benefits including Social Security, SSI, SSDI, TAFDC and EAEDC.
