Mission

McAuley Nazareth is a licensed residential special education school and group home, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1901, serving youth ages 6 to18 who have experienced emotional trauma, abuse and neglect. We provide a full range of educational & therapeutic services and offer youth a peaceful safe place where they can live and heal in an environment of mercy, love and compassion, and where they can learn to trust again and find hope for their future. We strive to move these youth back to their own or adoptive families & communities or place them in the best situation possible to become productive members of society.

Residential Education

McAuley Nazareth provides a year-round residential special education program for children between the ages of 6 and 13 at admission who struggle with emotional and academic stresses. We offer an effective learning experience with highly qualified staff in a therapeutic atmosphere. Residents benefit from a comprehensive array of services that include professional counseling, psychiatric consultation, medical/nursing services, occupational and speech therapy, sensory integration supports and a variety of recreational opportunities both on and off our grounds. All of the services are child and family-centered, trauma-informed, community oriented, and culturally diverse with the primary goal of reintegrating the youth with family and community life. The special education programs, which are approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), are taught by experienced special education teachers working in small classes with trained aides.

Nazareth provides trauma-informed group care service to children between the ages of 6 and 13 at admission who need a therapeutic, structured living experience while continuing in their public school. Nazareth provides a safe, supportive and enjoyable living environment while collaborating with each child's teachers and school counselors to help him make steady social and academic strides. Nazareth’s staff are readily available to public school personnel if a child becomes ill or experiences behavioral difficulties that require intervention. As children in the Group Care service blossom emotionally, academically, and physically, the staff continually work with families and referring agencies to help these children make seamless transitions to their own families, or to substitute families where that is necessary. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) makes referrals to the Group Care Program.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The goals for Nazareth are to move these youth back to their own or adoptive families and place them in the best situation possible to become productive members of the community. They come to the Nazareth Home presenting complicated profiles of clinical need and risk, each having unique and particular needs that require extra special care and attention. We provide a full range of services individually designed to give all of our emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth what they need to build on their strengths in order to heal and recover.
