Pernet Family Health Service, Inc. is committed to supporting families to be physically, socially, psychologically, and spiritually whole. Incorporated in 1968, Pernet Family Health Service is a neighborhood-based home health and social service agency serving poor families in the Worcester area. Rooted in the tradition of the Little Sisters of the Assumption and based on the belief in the dignity and worth of individuals, Pernet applies a holistic approach to providing home-based nursing services, comprehensive social services, and family life education. Pernet aims, through its continued service and programs to provide long-term strengthening and enhancement of family life.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The following programs are offered at Pernet:

Worcester Healthy Start Initiative:
A nation-wide home visiting program designed to complement the medical services that pregnant mothers and parents with children under 2 years old receive from their health care provider. Case managers and nurses monitor the fetal development of children and link parents to other area support services.

Young Parent Support Program:
In an effort to help parents age 23 and under be successful in their new role Pernet offers a Young Parent Support Service. This program can help new parents learn how to budget effectively, care for a child appropriately, and access needed community resources.

Parent Aide Program:
Pernet's Parent Aide Service complements the support families receive from the Department of Social Service. If individuals are interested in having a home visitor to work with them on household management, parenting skills, or access to needed resources then they may request a Pernet Parent Aide through their DSS worker.

Father and Families Program:
Fathers Groups are provided to men in the community who wish to be the best parents they can be. There is also a collaboration with the Fathers and Family Network, Y.O.U. Inc, and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office to support fathers newly released from prison to make their transition back to their communities and families as smooth as possible. Special attention is given to strengthening the relationship between fathers and children.

Early Intervention Program:
The Early Intervention Program provides family-centered developmental services to children age 0-3 who are experiencing or are at risk of developmental delay. Referrals may be made by any parent, friend, clinic, or social service worker who suspects that a child may not be walking, talking, or interacting at the level appropriate for their age.

Maternal & Child Nursing:
Home health aides and nurses at Pernet provide home care to at risk pregnant and parenting women, infants, young children, and their families. Enrolled clients must be pregnant, have an infant with a medical diagnosis, or a child at risk of abuse or neglect.

Homemaker Program:
This service is for disabled adults age 18 through 59 who are in need of light housekeeping services, shopping, and companionshiformer clients, and neighborhood residents. The following services are offered emergency food and infant supply assistance, holiday programs, youth services, English as a second language, nutrition classes, spiritual development, summer field trips, and family mentoring.

Parenting Support Groups:
Pernet offers a variety of free and confidential parenting support groups for fathers, Spanish speaking families, and individuals involved with the Department of Social Services.
