What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Exhibitions
Focusing on American art from 19th century to present, Danforth Art is dedicated to showing both historic traditions and contemporary art by emerging and established artists through quarterly exhibitions and a Permanent Collection of over 3,000 works of art in a variety of media. Danforth Art maintains important holdings from the School of Boston Expressionism and the work of African-American sculptor Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller.
Museum Education
To promote engagement with exhibitions on view, Danforth Art hosts a variety of Museum Education programs for audiences of all ages. Elementary students explore issues of multiculturalism through the Native American Tour Program. Families participate in monthly Drop Into Art sessions with free admission, interactive gallery activities, and hands-on art-making. High-school students train as Teen Docents, lead tours, and serve as student ambassadors at events throughout the year. Adults attend gallery talks, book readings, and docent-led tours related to exhibitions on view. A group of 35 committed volunteer educators attend weekly training sessions and lead tour programs for all ages.
Studio Art Education
Danforth Art's School offers more than 400 art classes to approximately 1,200 children and adults of all ages and levels each year. Studio art classes taught by professional artists explore a variety of media (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and ceramics) and are suitable for all ages and abilities. Professional development classes allow teachers to receive graduate credit through Framingham State University. Danforth Art provides year-round scholarships for low-income students and students battling serious illness (participating in the Art & Healing program).
