Mission

Theater in the Open is dedicated to creating, sharing and supporting live theater and high-quality youth arts education that is inclusive and accessible to all regardless of ability, identity, age or socio-economic background. Our programs take place outdoors in nature and in non-traditional spaces as a means to breaking down walls and increasing participation. We believe the stories that challenge and engage both artists and audiences deserve to be told with a spirit of generosity and community.

Free Outdoor Theater Season

Every spring, summer and fall, Theater in the Open presents 3-5 full-scale, outdoor productions that are a mix of original works and classic works of drama and literature. These shows are free and open to all and we invite the community to pack a blanket and a picnic lunch and come out to the beautiful Maudslay State Park to enjoy creative and imaginative storytelling.

Summer Arts Workshop offers all students a positive and creative space to grow and explore. Hands-on and enriching, our two- and four-week outdoor summer programs include daily classes in acting, improvisation, dance and visual art. Students are free to test their imaginations, build communication skills and connect with nature. Our professional staff of artists and educators creates a supportive and non-competitive environment that fosters both personal and artistic growth.
