What we aim to solve
According to a recent AARP survey of Americans over 65, 89 percent of aging adults want to stay in their own homes as long as possible but the challenges of living independently often cause caregivers to encourage their loved ones to move to assisted living or nursing home facilities. River House supports aging in place by providing a safe and beautiful location for members to spend the day socializing with their peers, participating in recreational activities of their choice, enjoying nutritious meals, receiving medical monitoring and care, and remaining an active member of their community. Caregivers can return to their work and other personal obligations, knowing that their loved one is comfortable, safe, and enjoying the day under supervision of loving nurses and staff. River House welcomes all members of our community, regardless of age, income, or ability level.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Adult Day Care
River House Adult Day Center’s (River House) mission is to address the impact of aging on families in our community by providing comprehensive, supportive services in a compassionate, safe, and engaging setting. River House was founded in 1977 and remains committed to providing the highest-quality care to aging adults in the Greenwich and Stamford communities while offering guidance and support to their caregivers.
Adults who wish to remain in the community but require daytime assistance come to River House, up to six days a week, to participate in vibrant activities, socialize with their peers, and receive compassionate care. River House follows a medical model where nurses work with every member, their doctors, and their family to provide a personalized care plan. Members who may be challenged with dementia, Alzheimer’s, depression, arthritis, diabetes, stroke, traumatic brain injury, cardiac or pulmonary disease, vision/hearing loss, or other age-related ailments, greatly benefit from River House’s team of nurses, health aides, social workers, and therapeutic recreation staff who are trained to support their unique needs. The medical care combined with socialization and therapeutic recreational activities throughout the day, improves the quality of life for our members and their families.
