What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

DFSMFC openend in 1998 and offers professional attire and job retention, career development programs to low income/disadvantaged women through our Simply Suited Program, Professional Women's Group Program and through our Career Center. The suits we provide symbolize our faith in every woman's ability to succeed. DFSMFC helps women improve their lives and become more self-sufficient. Our goal is to help local communities by providing low-income women with the tools they need to get jobs, build careers and become self-sufficient.

The following is a brief description of our programs and activities:

* Simply Suited: Clients are referred to us by over 110 Member Organizations, such as Career Resources, the Norwalk Housing Authority, NEON, CT Works, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, the YMCA of Norwalk/Darien, Family & Children's Agency and Interfaith Housing Association. We maintain an inventory of suits and appropriate interview outfits from which clients may select clothing and accessories at no charge to them. Our "boutique" is staffed with over 60 volunteers. Approximately 90% of the clothes and accessories are donated by individuals or through corporate suit drives. Some clothing must be purchased to supplement the donations, as many of our clients require plus sizes.

* Professional Women's Group (PWG): This is an education program started in April of 2000 that focuses on job retention and career development for women in the Greater Bridgeport and Norwalk/Westport areas. The PWG is open to all Dress for Success clients who have successfully gained employment. Clients receive training and knowledge through monthly workshops as well as practical experience in networking. Monthly meeting topics include communication skills, financial planning, time management, parenting issues, and homeownershifrom understanding corporate culture to handling personal finances, often without any support systems to help them navigate this daunting change. The PWG supports our clients during this critical time by providing information that will help women unfamiliar with the workplace continue to develop skills and advance in their careers. This is the only program in Fairfield County that provides career coaching, monthly networking opportunities with peers, exposure to corporate and professional leaders and professional training and development where the members help decide the topics.

* Our Career Center promotes confidence and professionalism by providing our clients with career guidance, technology skills, and job-seeking support. It offers one-to-one attention and resources that are vital to those entering the workforce, such as: an Internet-accessible computer lab with job placement software, job search assistance, resume and cover-letter writing lessons, and interview preparation.
