What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Events that are irresponsibly reported on often go viral and can fan the flames of the ongoing security crisis, resulting in increased global antisemitic attacks & terrorist attacks in Israel. HonestReporting’s goals are to expose anti-Israel bias in the media, publish stories the media ignore, engage foreign journalists in Israel & educate the public to defend Israel more accurately.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goals are to expose anti-Israel media bias in traditional mainstream and social media, and hold them accountable for the stories that they publish on Israel. Our press center aims to proactively address this issue by providing educational tours and briefings to foreign journalists based in Israel. Those briefings provide a balanced, unbiased representation of the news as it relates to the Middle East.

We proactively engage with foreign journalists based in Israel to provide them the sources they need to accurately report on Israel. We then hold journalists and media publishers accountable for the accuracy of the stories and headlines they publish. When we find errors, we request corrections, and publicize those inaccuracies. We provide the proper context, nuance, and information to understand why the inaccuracy was called out and what our expected correction would look like. That way, the public is educated about implicit and/or explicit bias that they may be unknowingly exposed to.

Using a small staff and 100,000 global subscribers, HonestReporting has become a leader in combating media biases and inaccuracies. We regularly engage with our subscribers via email, and have built a substantial social media presence to amplify our existing message. Our Jerusalem press center has on the ground staff actively engaging with journalists.

We have established a independent (i.e., non-government) reference center for journalists which the journalists look to for news about Israel. During the times of crisis this center serves as an a key point of resources for the journalists based in Israel.

We have also challenged the media to hold their personnel accountable to accurate reporting. We call out those instances where journalists have publicly expressed bias; as well as instances of bias that are inserted into articles and headlines. Such efforts have led to staff replacements at major media outlets and frequent media corrections.
