Low-Barrier Emergency Shelter

Open Doors is a low-barrier emergency shelter servicing the Harrisonburg/Rockingham community. We do not require an ID, proof of income, or sobriety to utilize our services. Each night the shelter is open, we have 40 beds available for individuals experiencing homelessness over the age of 18. During extreme inclement weather we offer an additional 10 beds at our overflow shelter location. In addition to shelter services, we provide each guests with a warm meal for dinner nightly.

Unemployed people

Economically disadvantaged people
Ex-offenders

We have a dedicated resource coordinator who works diligently with individuals in and out of our shelter, and provide light case management. They work diligently to help navigate resources, refer to partner organizations/agencies, and to provide support in obtaining vital documents, or items such as phones. Our coordinator also works to ensure that available medical and mental health care is attainable.

Our team works to meet individuals where they are. When our shelter is not operational, we launch outreach efforts to meet with those experiencing homelessness to provide basic necessities, like hygiene items, food and water. We also ensure that we continue connecting guests with resources to guide them to success.
