What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The Abundant Ground in Haiti

The Abundant Ground in Haiti provides the families and orphans in Croix -des-Bouquets, Haiti with much needed supplies for school, food, clothing and hygiene products.

Public education is free in Haiti but the costs of uniforms, textbooks, and other school related expenses make it impossible for most struggling parents. Because seventy percent of the population is in abject poverty, made worse by the most recent earthquake disaster, tragically, only sixty-five percent of elementary school-aged children are in primary school and of that number, only thirty five percent will graduate. Without an education, most youths are left with little options for legitimate income, making them vulnerable to crimes and other illegal, dehumanizing activities.

The Abundant Ground in Haiti’s mission is providing food, clothing and school supplies support. Our goal is not only increasing the graduation rate among orphans but instilling the belief that they can accomplish their dream and live their potential.

The Abundant Ground in NYC provides free holiday cards to inmates in New York City’s Correctional Facilities.  Research shows that inmates, who are informed and supported by their families, are less likely to return to prison (DOCS, 2007). During an inmate’s time in prison, many different circumstances happen both the inmate's and family’s life that can take a long time to adjust. In the United States there are at least 1.5 million children who have an incarcerated parent. This causes and contributes to their physical, social and emotional well-being (Adalist-Estrin, 1995). Other research shows that a prison sentence does not improve relationships skills, coping strategies or foster better family functioning. (Swanson, 2004).

The support provided by family members and children to inmates is what The Abundant Ground in NYC wants to strengthen. Outside the experience taught in the correctional facilities, healthy human interactions with family members and children are important too. When there isn’t a tool that enables inmates and families to support each other, the relationship can wane and cause re-offense and recidivism. The mission of The Abundant Ground in NYC is to provide inmates free holiday cards that they may send to their family members and children and foster healthy communication.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To create a sustainable environment of aide, help, relief, and support. In this case, having more than enough supplies for mothers, women, children, babies, boys, girls, teens, men and families are most important. Whether it is more shoes, more tee shirts, more water bottles, clothes, jeans, sneakers, shirts, medical supplies, school supplies; equipment fundamental and necessary upon to build new plans and objectives. For example, The Abundant Ground Foundation is working to build a farm. We have the terrain (but) would need to cultivate to build a vegetable, fruit and flower farm. Where The Foundation can feed continually and sell. In addition, to provide to others who like to their own merchant commerce such as selling vegetable, fruit and flowers.

The Abundant Ground Foundation in Croix-Des-Bouquets, Haiti has more than 100 to 200 people on sight every day. Where the terrain is cultivated for a vegetable, fruit and flowers farm, with the prosperity of climate, water protection, farmers and volunteers, within eight months to sixteen months, The Abundant Ground Foundation should have fully functioning operational farm where those in need to get fresh vegetables and fruits can obtain them for free; and with the volunteers provide lunch and dinner for those in need, children especially. The Abundant Ground Foundation, would in second part rely on the sale of vegetables, fruits and flowers for the commerce to sustain the aide, help, relief and support needed by the community. Also in part, it is The Abundant Ground Foundation goal that merchants would gain from the commerce. Those in the community would grow better and higher and sustain against poverty, lack of food, lack of supplies, lack of transport and equipment. Support, aide, help and relief.

The Abundant Ground Foundation has one hundred to two hundred volunteers who help in distribution of clothing, food, medical supplies, school supplies and equipment. In addition to the terrain , there is ample space for more on a sustainable level. With proper support from funds raised and supported, The Abundant Ground Foundation believes a farm in Croix-Des-Bouquets can be the proper commerce the community needs to fight against poverty, lack, unsuitability and more. We are about providing a continuum of aid. We have the volunteers and the equipment with better transport we cab better provide the sustainability needed.

Transportation. Often times it is not the donations that have not been coming in, it is the Transport. And although we have long been successful in getting our items to Port au Prince, Haiti, Florida or Croix des Bouquets, Haiti, it is the transportation that is still a big issue. Some items are simply to big to ship and must be done in increments; which can take six to eight months to complete. Even where all transpositions are ready it takes a time to plan and execute appropriately. Planning takes patience, grace and prayers. At the moment, The Abundant Ground Foundation is looking at the proper planning of a farm, the measurements and space, permission and equipment. The terrain is there but we need proper space planning, shipments, water planning, and transport.
